WS Carrier rocks!

I just played my first battle with the White Star Carrier, a 5 pt Battle of ISA vs. EAS Crusade era. The White Star Carrier and WS Fighter combo really kicks ass. My pack of 8 little muggers were definitely men of the match and worked their way through a Hyperion, 3 Chronos and finished off a Delphi! I must admit, I was uncharacteristically lucky with the Fleet Carrier rolls as after losing about 12 WS fighters I still finished the game with 7 of them on the table! And this was after the EAS player got a lucky shot off on turn 1 with the Apollo barrage which knocked out the WS Carriers' weapons completely, I failed to repair them for 6 turns!!!!! (More keeping with my normal dice rolling).
The WS Fighters were swarming the tough little Chronos and taking out 1 per turn at 1 stage! Outstanding!
 
I'll have to have a go against you with Narn or Drakh :-)
maybe one afternoon this week. depending on work anyway!
 
You were real lucky, An Apollo bombarment cruiser can be a nightmare if it got the correct type of missile. Flash missile and heavy missile agaist ISA could be a real nightmare. :wink:
 
Once saw 8 White Star Fighters kill a Dilgar raid or battle ship in one go. Precise goes a LONG way.
 
The flash missiles are ace, but only if you get to fire them....
The WS Fighters were bouncing ships and effectively eliminating them in 1 round of firing, 24 AP Double Damage Precise dice...?! That's gonna sting!
I had the White Stars punching around and through, heading for the Apollo and Delphi which were way up the back, behind the skirmish line of Chronos and Hyperion. I took a little damage on the way round, at high speed then the White Stars were through and among them. The Apollo did quite well against the WS Carrier, gave it a serious bloody nose, (turn 1, EAS win initiative, knock its weapons off line, turn 2 win initiative again, knock its engines off line... no dodge save either!) it also managed to rear missile a couple of White Stars with flash missiles but did nothing too serious.
It was definitely the fighters though that caused all of the hurt, of course the recycling helped enormously. The Apollo is a bruiser of a ship but with 5 White Stars dancing all over the place as well as the Nials and WS Fighters it was in a "target rich environment" and he couldn't nail everything at once.
 
ok then. The ISA Whitestart carrier. Compare to a Drakh carrier (or two, it is a warship I believe)

As you play both, what do you think, Maybe use the Drakh mothership instead as it is a war ship.
technically, in a "balanced" game, they should be pretty comparable.

actually, just looked at the weapons loadout on the WSC, EEP! but that aside.

I'm personally of the opinion that the WSC is vastly superior as a ship, it's fighters aren't technically as good as the raiders, although with fleet carrier, you can effectively up the nbumber of fighters available. The whitestar fighter also has a better hull than a drakh raider, but doesn't have damage points, both have suitably cool weapons, the raiders winning out due to beam :-). I dunno, I can see the advantages of each but I think overall the WSC and fighters might be a better ship by some distance. The drakh mothership is a useless ship without it's raiders, and it's whopping damage is easily wittled down with it's flimsy hull. The Whitsetar carrier on the otherhand, is a damned good warship in it's own right. Wingcomander. I wanna play ISA V Drakh some time!

if you time your moves right, that raider will never get the fighters in arc - they move after all cap ships, remember.

I've barely ever shot a Drakh Light Raider or Shadow Scout at fighters in any game I've ever played with them. It's incredibly hard to cover every soft spot in your fleet with them and even if you do then then the enemy should simply not engage them.
 
GEG helps against fighter attacks too. all those individual weapons systems from fighters won't combine against a GEG.

Yep. And fighters firing first isn't broken?
Not necessarily, it's just that the White Star Carrier provides you with an entire fleet of fighters, fleet carrier ability and a very good ship all into one War point...
