Would you buy prepainted minis on ebay

Mongoose
Considering getting out of this obsession of mine and curious how much of a market for prepainted minis there is even if the paint job isnt too stellar.

I have bought lots and lots - and alomst without exception been extremely happy with them especially since they are usually cheaper than unpainted :)

I'm too picky to allow someone else to do my minis. I might make an exception for someone I know personally who I have seen his work in person though. (Scoutdad comes to mind).

I've been known to purchase painted minis on ebay and then strip and repaint them... only because I like to have the whole fleet match and its often cheaper to get them this way.

alway prefer unpainted . will buy painted but will prob end up repainting as i like my ships to match up

mind you if its a fleet of stuff i dont already it will depend on price

I know lots of people who prefer pre-painted minis or who are willing to pay someone else to paint for them. For me, painting is a big part of the hobby and the only time I would buy painted minis would be with the intention of stripping them and repainting them myself. Of course, that means I would not pay a premium for painted, I actually consider it a negative selling point and would pay less for one. 8)

For me painting your minis is like building your lightsaber if you're a JEdi, an integral part of your training.

But sometime assembling the same lightsabre hundreds of times in exactly the same way is boring.

I'm considering selling my painted Klingons only to then buy another load and paint them a slightly different scheme.

True, but I'm sure Yoda would have had something to say about not paying attention to the moment or something lol

Unless you are like me, who is rather allergic to just about every paint out there short of water colors and tempra paint. At that point, I would just rather have someone, anyone, paint them for me. I would gladly buy minis that someone else has painted. I have moved away form using eBay, but I could go back if I had to.

I've purchased painted Eldar figs, and didn;t strip them because

A) they were really nicely painted
B) they were aspect warriors so they clashed with my otehr figs, but then taht's what they are supposed to do.

As to starships I'd strip and repaint them certainly. or but them unpainted.

If anything, I've started to worry more about them being built rather than painted, but then I've been stung a couple of times with badly constructed plastics. Metal is easier to unglue as a rule ;)

Easier to strip the paint of too. I did this with a bunch of GW metals by dropping them in a bucket of transmission fluid. Worked like a charm.

I have ships from all the fleets except Tholians painted so unless in the highly unlikely event that a pre-painted scheme was identical to mine, I'd only be buying to strip the paint and would need a discount below raw lead for the added work.
