World of Warcraft from Mongoose?

Mongoose
When does the WoW rpg come from Mongoose? (with Savage Worlds rules? :)) THIS would be cool. And the game has a healthy fanbase of over 12 mio people.

When does the what now? I cannot think that SW + WoW could be any more successful than the two previous editions of D20 + WoW were. Well, actually doing worse might be achievement but the par is set very low on this one.

What you seem to lack is the little bit trust that Mongoose can do it much better than White Wolf. WoW is one of the best franchise on this planet (if not the best) with 10 times or more the fanbase than any other franchise Mongoose has in its program. The problem is reaching this vast audience and beeing able to pay the license fee.

White Wolfs WoW trial 5 years ago has been mediocre at best and its fail shows that these loosers cannot do much else than their own WoD and similar stuff. But this does not mean that another company cannot do it better if they do it more professionally. I think Matt can succeed where others failed. Formidable rpg series of famous franchises like Conan or Traveller proofs this perfectly.

We have no interest in WoW. I am fairly convinced it rots brains :)

Well at least a point of view. sorry for bothering you with this. I quite like the warcraft universe and thought it could be the next good source of income for Mongoose. (you know MMO, novels and movie 2011 generate tons of money) But I guess it depends on personal preference and if you have no love at all for the setting then the books would probably be as sucky as those of WW seveal years ago. I often forget that the roleplaying hobby is still only hobby for the rpg developers too.

It could well be a good source of income, but if our hearts are not in a setting, I think it would show. We have a rule here - we don't take ona licence, no matter what it is, unless at least one person at Mongoose is absolutely fanatical about it!

Guess the solution would be to hire at least one person that is fanatical about it.

I am a fan of WoW though due to work commitment and other stuff I try not to get sucked into it but I have to agree with Matt. I want to work on intelligent games, not ones that rot brains... even if I am a fan

The problem with a WoW paper and pencil RPG is it directly competes with both the game it emulates (D&D) and the game it is based on (WoW the MMO Megastar). The only edge is if the MMOers buy the RPGs for "lore" material...which I think most of the sales on the White Wolf books were for (I think I have met three people who ever actually played the D20 edition).

So yeah, I imagine it would be an expensive license aimed at an audience that's too busy playing the MMO to notice the dead tree edition of their game floating around.
