Wing Commander

Has anyone thought of Wing Commander for a miniature game? Maybe focused more on dog fights between fighters and not so much on capital ships.

It is an interesting universe and there are quite a few time periods to play in. Kilrathi war or post Kilrathi with potential to fight the Nephilim or the Border worlds and have a good old human versus human battles.

As far as I recall, there was a set of stats (handful of stuff from WC3) suggested for ACtA, but they vanished in the big clearout. Galactica, Homeworld, Star Wars conversions disappeared too.
ACtA wasn't really the best environment for it anyway, the WC universe is far too fighter- centric to convert well.

The movie was indeed terrible and I agree with that but the stuff that has been developed by the games and novels kind of compensates for that with tonnes of material. There are like 5 factions potentially and quite a few ships shown.

We're working on BSG (from scratch) over at http://www.b5acta.com - the original poster of the BSG stats on here is more than welcome to contribute them over there if they wish to, and we'll promise a far more permanent home for them than hidden away on forum posts... :) Obviously the same goes for any other game universe conversions.

Wing Commander as an RPG, I'd be all over. But as a minis gam? The market is already saturated with minis, and I don't but them, because they don't fit into my budget. I'd rather have books then plastic figures any day.

Using the old computer game as a framework, there are plenty of fighter designs on each side for miniatures. Using a model of the carriers at the edges of the board and sending in fighters escorting bombers to attack the enemy carrier would be chess-like in flow and might make for an interesting minis game. Many scenarios would be fighter-on-fighter but variations would be possible with attacks on asteriod bases (now where did I come up with that?) . Ah, to be Angel's wingman once more (sigh)...
