Mr Evil

Mongoose
ok well touney is this saturday, and ive in the last few weeks painted 3 brand new 2k armies

The Skinnies (venerables) Advantage is a nice small compact army that would be fun to use for a first time ever !!!

The Russian mobile infantry Advantage would be ive used them in several games and they havnt come up against anything they cant handle !!

Or

The Wasp Swarm (ripplers) Advantage is there simple to use and would be very different for oponents to tackle. (disadvantage ive never used them and they will have trouble killin big stuff)

I'd go for The Wasp Swarm. It's different and unexpected and cool. You don't always really need to kill the big stuff, just avoid them and go for the mission objectives.

I was torn between the ripplers and the skinnies. I finally went with the Skinnies, but either way, let us know how you fare!

I voted for the Ripplers. I'd like to hear how well they do in a tournament. And they look awesome, too!

(Well, all three armies look awesome!)

In all honesty i will probably go for the Russian MI as i have used them befor and the idea of a tourny is to do well and win games and such.

but the skinnies are drawing my interest !!!

but the swarm does look scarry !!!

Well, PL3 is difficult, but if you do decide to try them, I'd do something like this... (working with what you have there)

3 Ven Marauders

2 x 3 Venerables w/ Champ w/ Extended Jump + Harmonic Shield
All w/ Dual lasers

3 Venerable Champs - 3 w/ Sharpshooter + Agile (ambushers)

Skinnie Lord + Ambush

Basically, hide the ambushers near the back of the enemy deployment zone (they'll likely be hiding because of a Last Stand). With 18D6 and possibly 3 Light neural beamers or 6D6+1 shots with 3 rerolls, you should be able to do a lot of damage. The other squads go up the middle and try to flush out any other squads and the Venerable marauders play Defense or denial, whichever expression fits you best. You can basically sit them along the board edges, so that if the enemy tries to jump on the last turn, they can jump out and fry almost anything with their weapons.

The great thing is, this is an AA skinnie army. No air unit will get by without being shot at by at least 1 unit, and if it is still on the board the next turn, it's gonna die.

With your sheer firepower, I think you could do very well.

While the MI look great, they have already been done in one form or another since day one.

The bugs look awesome, but it seems like kind of a novelty army. A really cool novelty army that I am sure would kick some serious butt, but still a novelty army.

The skinnie venerable are tough opponents, and throwing in the marauders will make them even nastier. Especially since very few people have any experience fighting against them. Heck, the marauders will probably draw so much fire that the venerables will be able to have a field day!

Just my 2 cents.

Depends on what you expect to face - Ripplers can avoid big stuff and use their manoeuverability to hit where you want to -

Numbers to absorb damage. I'm not sure how Overseers would perform in practice, probably need shield.

MI are normally balanced and should be able to handle most things.

Venerables - very tough and nasty - on paper - not sure how that would equate in practice - I'm always a bit wary of having loads of points tied up in a few models - a couple of bad dice and .......

Anyway - look forward to seeing your painted efforts tomorrow !!!

For my part I got cold feet on my list and bought 4 cougars to do up tonight - only to find 5 right arms and 3 left !!! Bit of a downer that.

Never underestimate the army that no one has seen before, it gives you a HUGE advantage!

People thought my 1500pt All warrior bug army would never work, but it went 3-0 in the tournament I played in mostly because nobody knew how to counteract that many bugs (this was before exo's).

So, don't be afraid to try something new. If the people have seen your russian MI and lost to them, then they've likely been thinking of ways to beat you, and each time you play them it'll become harder and harder to win.

My thinking as well, which is why the MI were the bottom of the list for me. Everyone has used them and played against them in one form or another, so going with something that will really catch them with their pants down!
