why is everything going to be the laST?

WHY IS EVERYONE SAYING THAT THIS IS GOING TO BE THE LAST TOURNY, THE LAST OF THIS AND THAT,

(oops caps lock)

are we all gonna stop playing ...hell no, well not us anyway.

come on all, shopkeeps, all of us, lets not just stop having tournys as you cant buy the minis,
we all still play and love games you cant get any more? :) :)

I suspect most of the "LAST" tourneys are being held at games stores, who are probably not so interested in a system they can't sell anything for (for obvious reasons!).

Regards,

Dave

I have no intentions of playing the last of anything, that's why I am getting as many ships as possible now, so I can play for a long time to come.

Exactly, I'm stocking up now but I can see why shopkeepers may want to hold off on events for the timebeing.

indeed, would you hold promotions for A) a game with no minis, or B), something with minis that you can sell and make a profit on. It's just a business decision

The notion of a tournament loses something if there is no prize support. Mongoose provided $175 in credit to a tourney at this weekends con in Denver. Very cool of them. Seven months from now, they'll probably do the same thing at TactiCon.

Just one problem...

Indeed, we are getting quite well organized around here linking the various players along the Front Range (Ft. Collins to Colorado Springs, CO). I'm hoping that our local ACTA grand poobah can organize some sort of tourney or campaign. (You listening David?)

If I wanted to get nagged, I'd get married....... ;)

B5 is alive and well here... there will be tournaments and campaigns. It took five trys to get to B5 and there haven't been that many attempts at the game just yet. Faith manages ;>

Pft, I've already got an agreement with my local gaming store that when there are no more mini's he'll supply gift certificates for the store. Like heck he can't sell anything.

He can't sell anything *related* to ACTA - one would've thought that would've been obvious! ;) Not sure about your point re "gift certificates" - I was talking about sales, not prizes!

For many retailers, putting on a tourney serves two purposes:

1. Get people, especially new people, into the store
2. Sell them stuff

Usually, the stuff they sell would be related to the game being played. In the case of ACTA, this is not likely to be possible ergo it is less likely that retailers will want to host ACTA tourneys over another system which they can make sales against.

Obviously, this isn't a hard and fast rule, but it is certainly true in the general case and is clearly evidenced by the fact that several LGS have announced a "last hurrah" for ACTA.

Pft... :)

Dave

well our rabbits hatch doesn't carry that much acta stuff so I'm pretty sure they're allow us to run tourneys even though its a dead product.
I don't think any acta stuff has been sold apart from on saturday when we held our tourney
and that was me cashing in my £50 1st prize for another ISA fleet box

Our store didn't get that much ACTA stuff either, but our store owner is always willing to provide something. Maybe a space felt, how about the GF9 counters, perhaps a pound o' dice to replace the Dice of Sucking one of us might have brought.

There are also other games out there (surprise, surprise!) I got into minis through WWII so a gift certificate towards a King Tiger or some such might be useful. Since one King Tiger is not enough, I'll have to buy another one, which triggers a purchase I would not have made otherwise...

Well you know, I reflect and think a lot in the last time, inspired by many things.
And it is a good question if sometimes... sometimes just survival may not be enough.

Actually by playing the tournament in his store we raise awareness for the game and he gets to sell another set of books and a set of counters....

Sounds like he's getting his moneys worth right there.
