Who's coming to Gen Con Indy 2007?

Bubba Ho-Tep

Mongoose
Just trying to get a feel for who's going to be there.

I will be there on Tues. night doing som open gaming at the Ram.

Wed. I co-organize KFG Wed. Gaming at the Ram, we will have 18 events this year. I'll post the events here when they are finalized next week.

I'll be there, but working like mad. If I get the chance and can find some people, I'd love to stop by and find a CTA game to watch for a few minutes, but that's probably all I can spare since I work for the con.

Do you guys have any CTA or B5 events planned?

There is one Mongoose CTA event:

NHM00496 - Babylon 5: A Call to Arms:

5 point Raid level tournament. A Call to Arms is the game of space combat in the universe of Babylon 5. Throughout the station’s turbulent history, armed fleets have enacted the harsher policies of their governments. Now you can play out these confrontations on the tabletop with entire fleets drawn from the Earth Alliance, Minbari Federation, Narn Regime, Centauri Republic or any one of the many other races that dwell in the galaxy.

8 hours - 2007-08-17 10:00:00

$6.00 - 24 slots

Unless there is more to be added this is it as far as Mongoose sponsered CTA.

There is one other CTA game being run, but it sounds more like a learn to play game.

I'll be there, probably by Thurs afternoon. Not running anything. . . all gaming all the time. . . except when shopping. . . or attending seminars. . . or other stuff.

I'll be there, I didn't see the B5 Tournament, since it the game system is N/A in the list. But I found it now.

Now I just have to choose between B5 and Warmachine.....

If I don't play in the B5 tournament, I might look for some pickup games.

Let's see driving 2+ hours, spending 70+ a night for a room, having only a couple of games there I want to play, Wading through huge crowds of people including fanboys that have a big case of swampass, having my leg give me great pain, nothing at the con to buy I can't find online or can't get a month later, spending 70+ dollars just to walk in the door, having vendors set up with food at 300 per cent inflated prices.

Yea, right.... sign me up!..... NOT.

So you're saying you'll be at Origins right? :)

I'm running SST and B5 RPGs... You know you want to play them. :)

p.s. I think anyone caught with swampass should be taken out back and hosed off, then hung to dry in the shade. :)

I will be coming to GenCon 2007. This will be my first Gencon ever and I too was terribly disappointed to see very few mongoose events. I am an avid SST player and I don't see the purpose of dragging my minis across the continent now like I was hoping to do. Also, no SST RPG games either.

Lets see, 5 "Victory at Sea" miniatures "Newcomer's welcome" presentations with armies provided, but one Battlefield Evolution Tournament. The description suggests it is an introductory "Newcomers Welcome" tournament, but are materials (armies) provided? No.

No SST of any kind, and that game has been out much longer than BF:E, if you're expecting people to bring thier own armies, that seems like the wiser choice. What's the deal?

I don't do the scheduling but I think it's either a case of staffing the SST events or pushing the new ones.

I can't remember what the turnout for the SST minis tournament last year was but I think it was low. Other MI might remember better.

This year will be my first GenCon. About 6-7 members of my gaming group and I are all driving out from NJ in a rental van. We're starting our journey Wednesday and should get there by Thursday.

I'm interested in signing up for SST miniature games if there are any being run. With all the guys piled in the van, I won't be bringing any armies but I was looking to get into demo games if there were any. I checked the event registration last week but couldn't find anything SST?? If anyone is running SST minis (or GoMC1) please post event names and times. Thanks.

Um, wow.

If I were to go to a convention, I'd have a few goals.

1)Play the games I enjoy now with some new people. Well, there's no SST, and one BF:Evo tourney. At least there's plenty of Battletech.

2)Try out new games the wife and I might enjoy. VaS and ACTA, perhaps, but I don't think the wife's interested.

3)Learn new stuff. Lots of the things are already full, and those that aren't are pretty pricy. $21 for a sculpting seminar?! On the plus side, there's some workshop sessions with Stackpole.

4)Give a wife a taste of RPGing. There's a couple of GM seminars she might enjoy, but no luck on the games she wants to try (All the Serenity games are full, and there's no Wheel of Time games).

I'm sure there's enough to keep us interested, but it's not looking to be worth the price.

I figure about $80-100 for events alone and $130 for badges. That's not including air fare, hotel room, and food (probably another $700-800!)

Almost a thousand bucks for four days of so-so gaming opportunities. Yes, I could meet one of my favorite authors, it still seems a bit high. Can somebody please tell me how this is worth it?

I've been to Gencon and Origins for the last couple of years, but I am only certain that I can go to Origins this year. I'll try to go through your issues one by one.

1) I believe next year will be big for Starship Troopers when EVO comes out. I know that Mongoose does demos in the vendor hall or in the minis halls if they have the tables available. My first Origins was spend doing demos of SST and ACTA in the minis hall. We had a LOT more demonstrators come to the big cons then. Hopefully this year we'll get more recruits :)

2) There are a lot more games to try than just Mongoose's. I have a friend who goes to the big cons just to roam the vendor hall and try new games. He came home with a huge bag of free stuff from Gencon. I did get him into a few paid events using generic tickets, and he had a blast. My wife is going with me to Origins this year for the first time and I'm sure she's going to find games that she likes that I've overlooked in the past. This is a much better place to "shop" games than many of the FLGSs because many of the creators are there to show how the games are played.

3. I think more stuff will open up closer to convention time. I'd keep checking back. Some of the more pricey seminars actually have supplies and projects. They could also be seminars by people who do them for a living. I'd hate to see how much a Bill Clinton talk would be. :)

4. I don't know how to help you there. I wanted to play a particular game one gencon, signed up for the only game being run. Showed up at 8am and was there with a full table of players. The GM never showed. In that case I'd have rathered it not be listed. I ended up playing a non-d20 homebrew game that rocked.

I'm not sure how you got $80-100 for events, but I won't argue. I know True Dungeon's not cheap and a big pull and I'm sure there are others.

Travel expenses are what may keep me from Gencon. I have a free room for the con, but gas and food aren't going to be cheap. Plus I'm not taking my wife to this one. Luckily I'm close enough that I don't have to fly.

One place where I get a break is that I'm a demonstrator so my badge is paid for by Mongoose in exchange for me demonstrating their games. Also I usually get together with a group so we cut our room expenses. Rather than 2 people paying $100 a night, we get 6 guys together paying 15 or so a night each. Then find someone to carpool and cut the expenses there.

Will what I say make it work the large expense? I don't know. Did it open up more ideas? I hope so.

Got back from Origins with my wife. It appears that Lunch Money, Walk the Plank and especially Munchkin are wife friendly. :)

She also got into a Belly Dancing class, a painting class (basically watching Matt Verzani <sp?> paint and tell how he did it), and the Munchkin game with Steve Jackson.

I'm going to Gencon alone and don't plan much demoing this trip. I bought my badge and have decided to go with generic tickets. This way I can just show up at the games and look to see if anybody decided not to show up.

Hope to see everyone there!

Nezeray

p.s. There's a SST 500pt tournament at Gencon, check the latest data file. :)

I'll be at GenCon but won't be able to help out with any demos this year. If I get some free time I'll swing by and try to meet everyone.
