White Wolf/ Necromancer Games site hacked

Hi folks. I just got a message from one of my players who has an account with White Wolf. He wrote that, "I should have kept the e-mail to show you guys (the poor spelling & grammar were entertaining) but, apparently, the hackers have e-mailed me and asked me to send them "thank you" money ($10) in order to get back my User Data for the White Wolf site.".

If you can send me an original copy of that message, it could help target the spell easier......

I'll see what I can do...

Sadly I have deleted the original e-mails but I kept the text of their e-mails (because the wording gave me a chuckle):

After the server white-wolf.com has been hacked, admins have refused \"to thank\" us.
U can buy database white-wolf.com for 10 $.
In base 65000 accounts with mails, icq, msn, personal data of users.
New page for details & contact http://scharniertheater.de/form.php

I don't, however, have the original e-mail address of the hackers handy. Good luck with your hex Raven and thanks!

Sheesh, these guys are real scum, and to be emailng individuals users- good grief... They couldnt have hit at a worse time too, gotta believe they've put a dent in the holiday shopping at the site.

On the positive side, it looks like the site is back up now and back in business!

Yeah, and Tiberius is a fellow New Yorker, we're all happy that the transit strike has just ended, so that with your post that White Wolf's up again shows things are definitely getting better all around!! :D

Nice to hear that the strike is over, Bregales. I'm in upstate New York myself. Ah, good ol' upstate New York: where the skyscrapers of the city are replaced by mountains, and the deer dart through traffic instead of tourists!

Oh look everyone, a mean-spirited and vindictive post by Raven. Gee, THATS something new...

This forum literally stinks with your negative and hateful posts, Raven. Why don’t you take a break from this forum, and let it air out a bit? Are you even able to do that? I know you post A LOT... and you're obviously trying to get some unmet social needs satisfied by your constant presence here... Maybe some time away from this forum would be to everyone’s benefit...

Now, some of your game mechanics posts are interesting and worthwhile-you have something to contribute- we all have something to contribute here. And we all should be able to do so without this constant flow of bile and hate from one user.

Despite what you have to contribute, your vindictive posts, and your presence here, are to the detriment of this forum.

And I hope the Mongoose admins and moderators take note of that.

Furthermore it appears to be getting worse, and not better, despite having two interesting threads shut down in the last few months in large part due to your posts: this last post- hoping to hear about "people mysteriously dropping dead" in order for your holiday season to be happy- is going too far, even for someone as unpleasant as yourself.

Again, I hope that the Mongoose forum moderators are taking note of this, and will work to bring back an atmosphere on this forum that is welcoming and open to all.

I'm not dignifying this one with a responce beyond this 'Thoth'. Since I have conversed with Mongoose Old Bear directly in a less than worshipful manner, Ian is likely aware of me. Since other people talk to me, I have a list of fourty or so people who want to receive my inofficial Conan material and some have even encouraged me to pursue the ones that destroyed two other roleplaying forums your view can't be in the majority. I am vindictive, but rarely start fights here. Like in RL, some people like to poke at people wth a stick because most people don't fight back and get an unpleasnt surprise when they do it to me. As for you personal comments- Vincent Darlage and others here are on a lot more than I am. Does they have a deficeint social life too? I have a godawful amount of friends Thoth from various walks of life. I usually have to fight for a night off to get writing done- which is why I can't get anything but correspondance done in this holiday season- so again what an assumption to make. All of them know what buttons not to press however and all is well. The world's full of people who might not make your A-list of 'what Thoth expects from them', but the world manages to keep turning. And I won't even accept your flame bait Thoth. No personal insult back despite the ones you sent me. So Merry Soltice. May the god of Divine Knowledge whose name you're stolen give you some Wisdom this Dark of the Year as well.

Sheesh..... This always seemed to be one of the nicer forums I visit.

There is no need to make things personal. Why don't we stick to the subject in which we all mutually love? This very wonderful game and the fiction that inspired it.

No kidding, I'm a native of Oswego County (CNY) myself, did theatre & worked in Syracuse before moving to the big mess - I mean big apple. Upstate New York has beautiful and really varied geography, I love the state.

Oh for cryin out loud, I haven't paid much attention to the forums this week, but had an insulting post on another thread and quit it, and I see problems going on here too.

I like reading both your posts here, but not this line of fighting. I'm laying off for a while myself I guess. I'm sure some will say "Good then shut up" but just trying to say that we all come here because we love the game and all want to help each other/ourselves by contributing. I've just had too much stress this week to deal with this crap. I sincerely wish the best for you all, and will check back some time in '06. -Bregales.

You should read the whole thread before condemning. Her post didn't apply to anyone on this forum but to the hackers who attacked the White Wolf site.
So you don't need to start a new flame war.

Again- I didn't start this, so if Thoth keeps quiet so will I. I have no desire to engage in combat continually but have been attacked repeatedly over the last few weeks. Holiday stress and looking like an easy scapegoat perhaps. I know I don't want to drag this out any further.

I really do think it is the holiday stress. My system's clean at the moment- I used my anger to fuel said curse- but other people likely don't have such an outlet.

me to releave stress work on fruit and veg for the christmas period that is a release for a whole years bile if not more  raven has put alot into conan as has others and count her as a email friend.

she comes roleplaying from the same background as me as I was a CoC ref for well over 10 years and it was through lovecrafts circle and howards horror novels that I found conan,I was as vocal as the others about the hackers and as the pope seems busy maybe raven will get them but that was and is meant lightheartedly.

also as it comes to numbers of posts only at the moment does LBH do better than me and I have more than one life on the go just ask my wife

so merry christmas and a cthulhu new year 8)

For not wanting to dignify my post with a response, you sure had a lot to say in response... Good to see you could squeeze in a reply into your busy schedule, Raven. :)

Regarding this, I'll say, to quote the bard: The lady doth protest too much, methinks. Haw haw! :D

Hey I know you're social calendar is booked tight, so I'll only add the following:

I see some have suggested that you were referring to the hackers in your most recent "I hope people die" rant- its interesting that you didn’t actually say as much in your reply. But whomever you were referring to, for the benefit of the forum maybe you could make an effort to keep your death wishes to yourself, and your flaky spell, curse and hex talk as well. Of course I realize that’s asking too much of you... But when people mention their faith on this forum you go bananas, meanwhile you spread your posts about your goofy spells and hexes around like feces, again to the detriment of the forum's welcoming atmosphere. But among reasonable people at least, there is something to be said for meeting people halfway...

As for flame bait, again all anyone around here has to do is mention their Christian faith and its “Flame On” for you..

I found it funny how you mentioned your "godawful amount of friends" (quite a choice of words to associate with your friends) know what buttons not to push: I pictured this group of people walking on egg shells around you, whispering: "Ok, here comes flaky Raven... remember, no one dare say anything about Jesus or Christmas or she'll go apes**t bananas!"... Haw haw!!

But I did appreciate the Merry Solstice comment- you meant Solstice, right? Because you spelled it Soltice...? Your post BTW had a lot of typos: too angry to spell correctly? Guess I must've really rattled the old bird's cage...Haw haw! :)

But again I accept your Merry Solstice wish in the spirit of the holiday season, and reply in kind: Merry Christmas Raven Blackwell!

I sincerely hope you and your family have a happy holiday season!

And to all the forum members- Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Kwanzaa, and Merry Solstice!

And lets have a great New Year!

And be careful driving around out there, Raven, as you busily zip from one social engagement to the next- and indeed to everyone on the forum: I'd say the ice, snow, and drivers boozed-up on 80 proof holiday cheer all add up to a -25% modifier to our Safe Driving rolls, at least. Haw haw!!
