White Star painting tips?

Does anyone have any good tips on how to paint a nice-looking White Star? What colors to use, how to get the cool effect of their hull coloring, and so forth? Thanks!

The picture makes them more purple than they are in real life, but I went for a dry brush of pearl white with a bit of purple ink swashed over it, then re-highlighted w/ pearl white again.

Then again, I really didn't like (or want to attempt) the mottled look.

I like your finished product, WereRogue. Can you tell me more about how you did it, kind of step by step?

Sure.

I wanted to acheive a true pearl color, so I based in black, and painted using a blue-grey color. Once it dried, I hit it with a medium inkwash of Purple Ink, leaving it heavy in some areas, and thin in others. Then I hit it with a light drybrush of pearl white, followed by another wash of purple ink (mainly to bring out the "splotchy" effect) and a final pearl white drybrush to bring the white of the White Star out.

I did the rest of my ISA fleet the same way, though I used purple and green ink combos on my War level ships, did a light blue on my WS Gunships, and did my Blue stars in a metallic blue w/ pearl white D/B.

Hope this helps you out.

Derina, are your Nials supposed to be black, or are they just primered?

That is pretty much the official colour scheme for WS's...

That is basically silver with purple patches.

After basecoating silver I'd then give the ship a few light washes of purple, blue and green and then build up the purple patches with heavily watered down paint...

I painted mine silver, then used a sponge to apply a mix of silver and purple. Very simple, and it worked quite well.

Or for a weird alternate scheme...

@ MEB: wasn´t there a Wrestler called "Golddust" (Dustin Rhodes) sometime in the 90s? He would have liked that one...

now called Black Rain

I didn't like the look of the official colour scheme when it's on a static model, so I set out to give my WS a more organic and fluid look

This was achieved with a base coat of a dark purple, followed by a wash of a much lighter blue. I then did spot patterns across the hull in a avariety of colours, with a wash of a very light purple between each colour's spots.

I did mine with gray base coat (primer) then a coat of silver and then some Testor's Napoleonic Purple (and a tiny brush). After all these years, since B5W first came out, I am finally happy with the way the White Star looks. Then I touched it up with some gunship gray accents on the guns and stuff.

I am having no luck painting the details on the white stars. I have a metallic blue on them now and will probally just wash a metalic white/silver mix over it to get the highlights.

If I were to paint White Stars I would have thought the best way would be to start with a base coat of a light silver metallic paint over a black undercoat. Then apply a watered down Purple ink wash. Once this has dried highlight with a silver metallic.

If I ever do a White Star fleet I may give it a go.

this is my try to paint the WS. but i am still not happy with the paintjob...it is so damn difficult to paint it accurat.
