I'm curious which navies people will be playing. Even though the fleet lists aren't available I will say that if any fleet in the war had a major "strength" (like Long Lance torpedoes, or a deadly U-boat fleet) it probably translated well to VaS.

I'm partial to the Japanese. I have a fleet of USN ships too. What about you, admiral?

has to be the royal navy :D they got special rules for the italian navy? if they look like they are losing they change sides? and what about the french one? they surrender as soon as they see the enemy :D

french never win either so if it looks like they winning they have to spend the next turn shooting their own ships

Nah, the RN would save them the trouble of shooting their own ships.

Definitely RKKF for me ^^

(rusian fleet if anybody asks. Can't imagine better artillery and aircrafts for the period)

Well I think I will do something different from the norm. I already have Royal Navy and High Seas Fleet WW1 battlecruisers (the proper age of the battleship) and U-boats + suitable convoy with escorts for them to attack. So....
I think I will use the French and Germans as opposing surface fleets. Before you can shout "Haven't you surrendered yet" I will be finding the range with my 13 and 15 inch salvoes! :D

To make the French feel better, I will repeat an old Italian Navy joke.

"Why does the new Italian Navy have glass bottoms in their ships?"

"Why, so they can see the old Italian Navy of course!"

I will play any historical battle or "what if" scenario using any nation's ship more to speak to the poll question, but my Favorite is the superb Imperial Japanese navy. Second, I'd pick the USN (I'm a yank but that doesn't really get into the reasons as both navies were great and powerful. I am very fond of the British navy, but then I have to mention that I like the more modern units in the French and Italian forces too. I can't forget to mention the German Bismarck class and the gorgeous Prinz Eugen CA and the pocket battleships of the Germans. Heck, I love them all I guess, lol.

I have a pretty decent collection of Japanese, German and US ships (mostly GHQ models) that I bought from a fellow gamer about 15 years ago. Played a few games using General Quarters way back when, but they've been in storage for a long time. Victory at Sea will give me a reason to dig them out and play with them again.

The best part is, they are already painted! :D

My thoughts exactly. I'm all for what if battles (this game does them very well), but keeping it to Pacific fleets appeal to me. Maybe because I'm a Yank from San Diego.

Some Germans vs. IJN just sounds like way too much fun though. Brits vs. US? Sounds cool too.
