Well i voted for RQ2 as i have loved playing it over the last 25 years, but I am looking forward to playing a tweaked MRQ as a change. Playing in the second age will ease the transition for me and my players.

I like ice cream, but that doesnt mean i dont want to eat it all the time. :D

I'm quite surprised the survey is currently showing 60% of respondents preferred the previous editions to MRQ.

I'm not, really. The majority of RQ players are this point are going to be those who played previous versions, as there's no real game material for RQ newbies to get into the game with. I can't imagine it'll really take off with that many people outside of the existing RQ crowd until at least the Glorantha books are out, and even more once other settings become available.

Actually, I'm surprised it's *only* 60% :) (unless thats what you meant in the first place)

True, anyone coming to MRQ without having had a RQ background is going to find very little to actually use at the moment. Even if the companion was held back the Glorantha setting book should have been released at the same time as the core book, otherwise all you get is a sterile set of rules with no flavour. People could have still just bought the core book if they wanted or they could have bought the setting book as well and got playing straight away.

Most people want to have a playable, if basic, game on day one, not one that they either have to adapt to another setting or wait a month or two for something to do with it.

Ahem, to paraphrase an eailer statment. We are talking the rules, not the source books.

SO even in the Gloranthan 2nd Age book rocks, that doesn't make the MRQ core book a better rule book, just a rule book with a good supplement.

Heck, if we counted supplements, then RQ2 would walk away with the win.

Thanks but,

Mmm , both patronising and misses the point of what atgxtg actually was saying - which was the only meaningful comparison at this point is rulebooks. Not nice

No the only meaningful comparison is based on which is my favourite edition. The people who have an axe to grind about the MRQ system would like the poll to reflect something else. As I stated in my original post - I prefer RQ3 over MRQ (answering Your version of the poll) but will likely change my mind when some great supplements for the new system come out. I was never talking about supplements as a body of work - what i was saying was that I liked RQ3's flavour more than MRQ's but that when MRQ acquires flavour (via companion, supplements etc) I might change my mind. I decidedly do not like RQ2 or any of its related supplements, and even if it had the most beautiful and elegantly architected system in all creation I wouldn't touch it with a long pole. As a comparison, GURPS is a great system but so generic I have no interest in playing it; or I gladly play Conan D20 because Conan interests me enough to overlook the awkward (though improved in Conan) D20 mechanics.

I confess though my post ended out of line and I have edited it out. I did not react positively to being corrected for not doing anything wrong - especially given the humble and respectful tone of my original post.

Ok , fair enough. I am surprised you like RQ 3 but hate the RQ 2 supplements so much - even if you dont like the adventures in Borderlands, Pavis and Big Rubble, i would have thought that Cults of Prax and Cults of Terror , and Trollpak stand out as great supplements independent of system. Lets face it half of RQ3 supplements were from Trollpak anyway

But each to their own.

Agreed. I'm surpised that it's not much higher than that too. I can't imagine anyone who's actually played RQ2 or RQ3 prefering the MRQ rules at this point. I voted RQ2, though there's a tossup between it and RQ3 for me. My own game is about halfway between the two rule sets, so I had to just pick one.

Let's all hope that Mongoose can produce support material that can rival the RQ2 support. I can't think of another line that has produced such high quality material so consistently as Chaosium did in the RQ2 days. (There are other lines that may have as good material, but have a much higher crap-to-quality ratio.)

Here is one. I have been played RQ3 for a long time, and RQ2 a little (before RQ3). So far new MRQ rules seem almost perfect for me and I am using MRQ rules from now on.

But in order to decide what edition of anything is your favorite requires you to make a comparison based upon the information you have.

For someone to pick MRQ because of a source book that hasn't been released yet it like juding a beauty contest winner without seeing the contestant.

A lot of the people who were picking MRQ as "the best" or their "favorite edtion" had yet to see any edition of RuneQuest, including MRQ!

there was a good french version too...

I liked the non gloranthan games workshop one (because of the orcs!!!!they were absolutely monstrous....4d6 str/dex and all the others as human!!!!)...
