Where is Perrin?

As to why Steve's name isn't in the credits or at least give a special thanks like Greg, I don't think anyone outside of Steve and Mongoose, and Issaries know (well Luise Perenne probably knows).

He (Perrin) posted to an RPG.net thread about MRQ a bit ago. He seemed kinda snarky. All things considered, I don't know that I blame him. But Matthew responded well, and it certainly left me with the feeling that some of Perrin's work made it into MRQ.

*shrug*

Got link?

I think I have an idea on Steve's reaction. I suspect I have a line on his priorties with a RPG design, but I'd like to read his post and see for myself.

I have a snaking suspicion some of his comments are going to seem awefully familar to me.

If I remember correctly Steve Perrin said something about Runemagic chapter being mostly his writings, and asked where is all the money (with smiley).

Matt responded to him to send an invoice and promised free copy of rulebook.

IF I remember it correctly.

EDIT - Corrected quote author to atxtgshdflerid

That sounds about right. I can't find the thread, and RPG.net search isn't the most effective PHP script ever written. But that's how it went according to my memory of it as well.

I recollect likewise. When you think about it, as Steve was the primary author of RQ (and the inventor of the name, for which - all other matters aside - he should probably have been credited), and as BRP was derived from RQ, there would be a serious risk of all manner of messy IP litigation if Steve's name had been mentioned as an author.

That's not in the interest of Mongoose, nor is it in the interest of Chaosium. Depending on who could afford the best lawyers, Chaoisum could very well have ended up losing all rights to the BRP system.

I understand from that discussion that there is an informal "gentleman's agreement" - or at least that Matt has made an honourable offer, whether or not Steve has responded.

I know. THat's why I asked for a link. Findon something of RPGNET usually requires a leather coat, stetson, bullwhip and Webbly revolver. :(

"Damn, another Ark of the Covenant! How many of these are there?" :)

BTW, with all the letters than seem to be getting added to my handle, maybe I should either chance my ID to Pinky before my ID looks like an Aztec diety? :?

Thanks.

Wow, that was posted last Friday. A lot more recent than I thought.

Pity there is no mention of the old RQ crowd in the credits. Must be for legal reasons?

Just reading Steve Perrin's website now :)

It's amazing how many computer game companies drag in RPG/Wargame designers... Then again, it makes a lot of sense too - they're far more creative than a bunch of programmers ;)

As for Chaosium, I had a long chat with Mr Krank at Continuum, and we discussed something quite exciting for RQ that will benefit both companies, as well as greatly please the fans of certain lines.

*This* suddenly has my attention...

If Chaosium, Mongoose, Issaries and Mr. Perrin all get together and try to make RQ/BRP/SPQR into a serious d20 competitor....

Who knows it might even stop the FLAME WARS

Yeah! We could all join forces and go troll the living crap out of the d20 boards ;)

We can unite against a single enemy!

Onwards, onwards! To victory!!!!

I like this. We really should organize a raid on some other board when things get slow around here.

Sounds very Orlanthi.

Count me in.
