Mongoose
Say what you might about book serie(the lenght...Urgh. Atleast now I have managed to get through all of it bar final book. And am couple of years ahead of those reading finnish versions now since I read last 2 books in english :D) it does have potential for biiiig battles. Would be fun to have big scale battles based on the serie. Lots of troops, Aes Sedai, Asha'Man, Trollocs...

Good small scale fantasy game is one game I lack in my game collection(warmaster stinks) so this could fit the bill nicely :D

You can always hope can't you?-)

WotC made an RPG (just picked it up two weeks ago, at the wife's behest), but they're contract period is expired. (Yup, good ol' WotC dropped all the support stuff from their website once that contract expired, too...*grumbles*). Maybe Mongoose could pick it up? Of course, it'll probably have to wait until they see how BFE does, but it could be interesting. Just so long as I can get me som Rakens :)

I have ssen this as a Role Playinbg game. I was going tobuy it. Wasn't too sure though having never read the origianl series myself.

As far as I'm aware WotC only ever produced two books in the series, the core rules and an expansion/source book on the second book in the WoT series called Propecies of the Dragon. I've the core book but I have never seen the expansion/sourcebook anywhere. The main problem is that the entire world is so big with the expanded background of the current world (ever read the World of the Wheel of Time?). I know a lot of people who have heard of it and have the books but will never read any of them until the series has been completed and feel the same way about rolepleying it in case it spoils the story for them.

I never read the books, and don't intend on doing so, but Role played in it and it was excellent. I would recommend it as the No. 1 Fantasy setting for any RPG.

To be fair as far as the WotC RPG for WOT it was beyond a character sheet entriely supported by fans after the Rulebook and campaign adventure they released... WotC did nothing else with it at all..and from what I've heard had no intentions on doing anything else with it.

The RPG was good though, but with a leaning in making anything else on the field beyond Aes Sedai or users of the one power fairly feeble in comparison. Which although true to the books, doesnt necessarily make for good roleplaying.

Kinda reminiscent of Star Wars where everyone wants to be Jedi as they are the most potent class etc.. only more so.

Which is why I always liked the WEG RPG which only really covered the period of the original films and thus any force users were weak and suffered from being constantly under threat from the Empire...

Not that my main group had any force users, a smuggler, renagade TIE fighter pilot, a Wookie and a protical droid...

Adherence to canaon is far more important athan any artificial game balance constraints. So a in a star wars rpg jedi shouldbe as strong as they are in the movies, otherwise it just wont be star wars. Thats one of the reasons wotc's starwars rpg was did not do that well, the jedi were to watered down.

As for the fact that everyone want to be a jedi/aes-sedai/ashaman, its the narrators and the gaming groups job to work togather to make a party with differeing character types; thus over the course of many games all people can have the chance to play a jedi/aes-sedai/ashaman while the rest play 'mundanes'.

Just take a look at conan by mongoose; sorcerors leave everyone else pretty much behind in terms of power after the first few levels. A single demon summoned by a sorceror at level 7-8 can rip apart the rest of the group easily. But no one seems to be complaining, and the game is doing really well.

Anyhow, as for aquiring the wot liscense perhaps that was the 'grail' mentioned a few years back ;) But given the declining quality of the novels, I don't know. Whatever they do, I sure hope its not in d20 (and it probably wont be).
