What's your favourite space combat game?

Computer: Original Homeworld with its plethora of B5 mods.

Tabletop:

Small Action: Full Thrust
Beer and Pretzels Fleet Action: ACTA

EVE Online for me, been at it for a year and a half and still going strong. :D

for table top gaming i will stick with Full Thrust & variants therof, just cant go wrong with them. 8)

PC: good old Freelancer with the WTS mod to fly star trek and b5 vessels

Tabletop: Starfleet battles and it`s `light` version Fleet Commander, or acta using all kinds of stand in vesssels like a 10 point battle campaign fleet that started with Battlestar Pegasus as the Nova dread, Battlestar Galactica as a Battlewagon, MkII and MkVII vipers for Delta 1 and 2`s and 48 armed freighters (FA scale for those, would be to expensive otherwise)

and yes, I`m a Star Trek fan (NOT obsessed trekky with uniform and all, just a series / ship design lover) and proud of it

EvE - I forget how long I been going.

As for tabletop I got Full Thrust (NSL fleet)and Ive played the star trek version as well. which was fun.

I would LOVE to see EvE played on a table top.

On computer - the X-wing series, Wing Commander (especially WC4), Homeworld, Star Fleet Command 1-3, Freespace 2, probably tons more I'm forgetting

On tabletop, ActA, Aerotech 2, Full Thrust (especially the B5 mod from the old RPG!)

Cant beat the original Elite (first played it on a BBC :) ) it is the granddaddy of ALL computerl space combat games.

How could I forget about that game! It rocked big time. I still remember starting a new pilot, buying a fourth missile and heading off to that nearby Poor Agricultural, Anarchy world next to Lave. I think my best was rating as Competent when I landed many hours later.

I shudder to think of how many hours I spent on that game, and then again when it was released on the Atari ST...and again on the Amiga 500, and then again on my 386 Sx when Frontier came out...

Good news is there is another Elite Game in the works :)

Can't wait to see the Vigilant mini. For those who haven't seen one, imagine a big black dildo with engines on the back.

Oh you want an image?

Is that your ship Burger or the one you wish you had? :P (I never got to the point where I had anything bigger than a Ferox.... I really am gonna have to rejoin EVE sometime I think....)

tbh I think pretty much all the EvE ship models would lend themselves to a tabletop game.

Each race is pretty distinctive in terms of colour and shape. Possibly the hardest ones to model I imagine would be the Minmatar purely because of the angular nature of the ships and getting them put together.

dont you dare mention duct tape :D

Nah not mine... this is the biggest that I have...

Its a Nidhoggur, cost me 945 mil, a bargain at half the price :D (At half that price, it would have been a bargain...)

I'm not into the MMOnline games...I prefer sticking to the tabletop. Of the hex-based space games I've played I probably prefer Star Warriors to FASA's star trek game or Aerotech...

Aerotech is probably the worst of the major groups. Love the background, love the universe, and the Battletech game is very good, but Battlespace/Aerotech was just poorly designed from the get go.

Hell, I even love the concepts used - recharge sails, jumpships carrying various dropships, fighter heavy, with small numbers of extremely powerful warships.

But the math doesn't work, the game is clumsy, and the ships designs were obviously done by a different group than did the fluff, because they often don't match!

My favorite board games are B5 Wars followed by Star Fleet Battles. Reading through the Saganami Island Tactical Simulator now (the Honor Harrington game).

Favorite computer games - Privateer from the Wing Commander series, and MOO2 as a strategy game. Best overall space game - Star Control 2, a great combination of stragegy, role playing, and arcade shooter.

PC - Homeworld 2.....fantastic game.

Board Game, Either ACTA or the B5 full thrust adaption in the old Earthforce Sourcebook (and the shedload of fan expansions using Full thrust stuff).
