What was your 1st edition of Traveller?

Circa 1980, the LBBs and Books 4 and 5. My mother took me to the game store, and I think my parents have regretted it since; of course, I might not be doing engineering and economics today if it wasn't for Traveller getting me excited about those things.

I'll make it a quartet, I also have the original box and books(minus book 0, it hadn't been invented yet), I won't get into the number of supplements I have from GDW, Paranoia Press, etc.

Back in 1980/1981: 1st edition UK printing CT in the box, rapidly followed by everything else in short order. I bought mine from a little shop in London, hidden away down some tiny little alleyway. The shop was stuffed to the rafters with every conceivable RPG, wargames, miniatures, dice etc.

And I am *DAMNED* if I can remember the name of the shop, or its address.

Heh, I know that feeling, one of my favorite game/comic shops was exactly like that... Man those where the days.

My first Traveller books ... well, in late 1978. I had to order them from
Britain, but I do not remember the shop.
If Games Workshop did already exist then, it must have been them,
because that is where I ordered almost all of my other RPGs until ca.
1985, when it became easier to get them over here.

My first version was a copy of TNE I bought on the cheap in a discount bin at a game shop about 5 or 6 years back. I'd been gaming for a long time, but somehow never got around to Traveller, but I'd heard stories.

It was fun, even if I never got to play it much. Then I picked up GURPS Traveller, and from there found copies of the rest of the editions and on to the new Mongoose Traveller, and I rather like this one the best (with a tossup to TNE because I liked how it did some things better...)

My first edition of Traveller was TNE which I got from Erich Fuch's in about 1993. Sadly, I've never played it, though.

The first edition of Traveller that I actually played was a homebrew CT/T4 hybrid which I played in 2003 (yes, that's ten years give or take a few months; it was also the first time I actually played any RPG at all).

I won't say that I've been hooked ever since, but my first edition was the little black book box and we played quite a bit in the late 1970's. Since then I have continued to follow Traveller a little (I have a later boxed set, the GURPS version, T20 hardback, the LBB reprint, and now the Mongoose version) but my wife only plays fantasy RPGs and most of my old Traveller crew has long since moved away.

Love the concept, though, and often watch Traveller-like TV shows such as Firefly and the new BSG.

And I'm as old as dirt, too! :?

although i made a character for t:tne in the early-mid ninties i never got to play in a campaign as the gm decided to join the army, so i guess this new version is my first proper version of traveller and so far im really enjoying tha book and have allready begun prepping my firefly/mass effect style hybrid campaign

My frist version came out 30 yrs ago, and I have bought everything for traveller since then. I have been very luck over the years and have been able to collect almost everything over the years and am still doing so.

My first edition was Starter Traveller back in about 1985/86 which I quickly acquired books 4-6 to supplement my knowledge. But, I have to say, where I really began to appreciate Traveller was in the MegaTraveller days.

Something about a galaxy torn apart by war and the subsquent Hard Times really resonated with me. That said, I felt massively betrayed by TNE and for a long time would not buy anything for that version.

For me, started with Megatraveller, Traveller 2300, and 2300ad. Moved onto TNE with my own universe (returning to it). Did not care too much for GURPS Traveller, loved T20 Traveller. Like so far the MGT but I think it still needs a little more to add to it. Like a starship battle rules that can be used with miniatures and rules for designing vehicles. Yes, I am a gearhead.

First purchased version of Trav was GURPS Traveller. I've owned copies of TNE, Marc Miller's Traveller, and various supplements for both. I also bought and still own T20, but have only played it in one short-lived campaign. I have thought about getting CT, but never got around to it simply because there seemed to be so many versions of it and I just couldn't figure out which was the best. I looked into MGT mostly because of a review I read on RPG.net (which was linked from www.AlternityRPG.net, which is where I spend most of my sci-fi RPG time).
