Mongoose
I am thinking about an OGL supplement for WaW. What about vehicle Compendiums for each of the 4 factions?

While writing the World at War army list I already sketched out many additional vehicles, so as soon as Mongoose Publishing finally hammer their OGL into shape I am ready to publish many of these missing vehicles.

The good thing for you (and me) is that this OGL book will be written by the author of the World at War book  , so you can expect that the vehicles in this supplement are designed by the same principals as the ones in the original rulebook, the stats will be consistent with the existing vehicles.

As long as the Pacific Theatre supplement gets published it doesnt matter to me which is printed first.

Any would suit me, but probably Germany first as they will alway's be involved and the most common being the only Axis force in the game. These books should certainly be on the priority list before anything else.

As long as they all came out within a short space of time I don't think anyone would really mind and of course MGP will score financially if the forst release is the Germans since everyone likes their kit :) A long, protracted release scheme would probably hack a few people off though.

I voted German, but I'm not sure. I think a german book would sell more. They also had lots more different types of vehicles (there were 22 ausfürungs of the SdKfz 251 for example) which would lead to a very diverse book.

On the other hand, the germans always get more toys, so it would be nice to see some other vehicles for the other nations. One I miss is the Stuart for both the UK and the US.

The draft was sent to Mongoose 4 weeks ago, we are in the middle of the initial debate.
So Pacific War is right on schedule! :D
Expect Banzai suicide charges, Lunge Mines, Chindits, Ghurkas, the Stuart etc etc. :D

I fear Mongoose will not score that big since I plan to relaese it under the OGL agreement...
The initial release will be pdf only. I have to test the water, or?

Not exactly sure what a Vehicle Comapnion is, but the German one sounds cool to me. :P Dang lack of Spell-Chequers on fourems!

@ Prophet

I'll verify Pacific Theater is alive and well, and thus far living up to my stringent expectations.

The vehicle companion will include only one or two new rules or traits (Zimmerit) but many, many German vehicles from all periods of WW II.
Think of Pz 35, 38, I, II, III, IV, all StuGs, Marder, Nashorn, Elefant, Sturmtiger, Panzerjäger I, many SdKfzs, Achtrads etc.

Plus options to equip most of the vehicles with Mgs etc.

That's what it's all about... :D

And it is, of course, the world theatre, misspelt here as "theater"! ;)

I did not vote as, by the time I do get around to needing this, you'll probably have them all done. Minis come first and you already have vehicle data (M4A3 Sherman, M10 Wolverine) to go with my force (US Paratroopers).

That being said...

1) Which data is most useful? It would be great to have data for the M36 "Slugger" (M36 turret on an M4 chassis). Am I going to find a mini for this in 1/48-1/56 scale? If there's no model, how does the data become manifest on the table?

2) Will this cover all periods? It would appear that you and Mongoose are coming at this from the Moderns/Future games direction. There is a distinct appeal for at least some of us coming from the historical direction. A US book based only in the late war era would have maybe a half dozen vehicles (Pershing, Jackson, Stuart, Calliope, etc.) all of which could be addressed in an S&P. A US book that fills out the rest of the war (1942 to 1944) would have some neat stuff...though again, limited by item #1.

So, ruling out the US and the British (for the same reason, only a half-dozen or so vehicles to cover), we're left with the Soviets or the Germans. As knowing your enemy is half way to victory, and since they had the neatest toys and are therefore most likely to have those toys available as models, I guess I would vote for the Germans over the Soviets.

Absolutely your problem...
But since 1/56 gets more and more support...

A BIG YES! (See above, I do plan to write the stats for vehicles of all periods of WW II.)

I voted German purely because that is the nation for which I have the most diecast vehicles without published stats.

Oh, finding a model is up to me, there's no doubt. I was expressing a concern that you not put a great deal of energy into a product that might have limited practical use. Hopefully 1/56 will see more support over here, but right now it seems like we're limited to 1/48 and then only a few key vehicles. Again, for me, you nailed the important ones, so I'm covered.

Sorry, somehow I missed it.

lol, sorry Agis. I was just having a bit of sport at the transposed letters in "Companion" which in the question was spelled "Comapnion."

Sorta like how Foxmeister is trying to tell this backward yank how to spell "Theater." :P Good show Fox! 8)
