What scales do you use?

I use 1/1800. I like the extra detail and having turrets that move. 8)

Most folks from what I can tell use either 1/2400 or 1/3000.

A rather small minority use 1/1200 or larger, but adjust the ranges accordingly and have much larger playing surfaces than the typical 4' x 6' or 4' x 8' table when doing so.

As far as "mixing scales" goes, if you are consistent in measuring from center-point to center-point you could get away with it, but I would recommend NOT doing so, as folks will wonder why your Fletcher class destroyer dwarfs your Opponent's Yamato. Just my opinion, but I like consistency. 8)

Consistency helps me suspend disbelief that I'm pushing toy ships around making "boom" sounds when I roll dice to blow them out of the water.

Either way, welcome to the game and do what you think is fun! After all, we are just pushing toy ships around making "boom" sounds when we roll the dice. :) :D

 I've found saying 'boom' helps to unsettle my opponent

Well, I suppose I need to find opponents in the Sheffield area, I have seen a couple of people on the opponent finder so maybe I will PM them before going any further.

Cheers.

As has been said before 1/3000 & 1/2400 seem popular, I find the larger scale needs the ranges meddling with, 1/6000 although a nice scale suffers from a lack of model range from what I have seen.

Personally I have gone with 1/3000 Navwar as the cost is substantially less than the 1/2400 equivalents

As to intermixing scale, its all down to how you and your opponent view the difference, as all ranges are center to center it shouldnt be too bad. unless theres too big a difference, you could always base them on the same size bases as larger models and use the base for visibility etc

You should really see what scales are in use or would be preferred by your (potential) opponents and get that scale or their agreement as to any difference

Well, The other guy that I will be playing against using other rules has a 1/3000 scale fleet, so I think I will go for that.

It seems the most popular size, player wise and manufacturer wise. :)

1/3000 = Best all around choice for the reasons you just mentioned.

I, however, use the same 1/1800 scale as Shadow4ce. Mostly because we live in the same house and I love to hear his sound-fx when we push Toy Ships and Tanks around.

Dad, you crack me up! :P

Already have done, My name is down for it.

How do you expect me to remember everyone that's signed up and then done nothing to help?

Said I would come and didn't mind what venue. What more you want me to do?

Ask and I will obey. Well, not so much obey, but I will do my best. Bearing in mind I'm in Sheffield, so it will need to be something that is do-able from a distant.

I asked several times for people to give me dates they could conceivably be in Derby, but no one bothered. I had to PM Triggy to get the dates of his sodding football matches!

taken to PM

That's not my site.
Mine has only one ship on it... and that's in 1:56th.

I only do 1:6000 at the moment, although I am contemplating GHQ for a five point UK fleet for tourneys.

Although the 1:6000 ships do have a slight edge when it comes to competitive play, as the smoke counters are so much bigger in comparison. I wonder if it would be considered bad sportmanship to turn up with some tiny ships...

Overall I'm impressed with the 1:6000 stuff, I've not seen anything in the 1:3000 scale that makes me want to switch. Although the GHQ stuff does tempt me for a small fleet because the ships are such high quality.
