I'd really hate to see the Slaine-rpg disappear.Though i haven't played it yet i have read all the rulebooks that are currently available and am now working my way through Tir Na Nog and it shows real promise-especially roleplay-wise.
I don't think that using a magazine to distribute the rules is a good way to do it as u'll have to either take a subscription or really follow up on purchasing them all seperately.Besides it takes too long to amass the rulebooks that way to allow starting Slaine-GMs to collect em all in a decent timeframe

Getting back to Judge Dredd, I only just saw this post and I think it's one of the best so far. So, I had to add my chatter to the list.

Sourcebooks - I agree that the more of these, the better. Right now, we do seem to have a pretty good mix. We have enough rules to get good Judge or Perp campaigns going, but higher level adventures would still be tough at the moment.

I would love more info on Hondo City and Oz, but they are not top priority . Top priority IMO would be a Guide to Surviving in the Cursed Earth. Right now there is virtually no information on the Cursed Earth. As Judge characters reach Senior Judge levels, I forsee that their missions will involve travel abroad or have need to cross the cursed earth etc. With the right source book, there could be a lot of adventures either set in the cursed earth, or be brought about by things happening out there.

Another thing I would like info on oneday, is space travel, the colonies, and Titan. Mentioning Titan, I would love more info on Iso-Cubes and Juve-Cubes as I believe there is a lot of room for foolhardy prison break attempts. Perp players might enjoy the chance to break their other character out of jail when they get tough enough.

I do not think that new artwork is important for the sourcebooks. The books need to have good content, sketches of vehicles and equipment, and relevant comic strips included. I love the format that had been used so far, and the only complaint I have is that the RG: Crazes didn't have any images in the shuggy section. I would prefer more content, and when I want the pretty pictures, I'll buy the magazines or graphic novels.

New Players - I am also a long time fan of Judge Dredd, and read the comic as a kid when I lived in England. Now I live in Chicago, it's much harder to get the regular magazine. I tried a couple of times to email the back issues email address listed on 2000adonline.com but have never received a response... so if someone knows how I can get hold of the Megazine in the US, please let me know.

I will start my first adventure tonight with 3 players who used to know nothing about Judge Dredd beyond the film. One of the players hasn't even seen the film, but has heard of Dredd. That is about the extent of most American's knowledge of the world of Dredd. After I showed them some graphic novels and the core book, they all thought the world looked great. Two of them are seasoned gamers, and we are looking forward to diving into the game tonight. The point is, if everyone introduces a few people to the world, those people will buy their own books, and spread the word to their friends. If the adventures go well with this group, I will try and convince other friends of mine to try it out. Who knows, if I get comfortable enough as a GM, I might try to run something at GenCon Indy for beginners.

Fan Sites - Also, I definately think there is a need for more fansites. I know of Dredd Times, that has some good stuff (but please update soon) but most of the others seems to fall by the wayside. I keep seeing references to John Calibre's website, but unfortunately it has been taken down. If anyone runs a website, or would be interested in contributing content, please let me know.

I would quite like to see something along the lines of map/illustrations about the settlements in Slaine's time.

Maybe with aerial perspective drawings of the cities/towns/villages/forts and some detail on the types of things going on plus details on available services such as farriers, blacksmiths etc...

This could be an article for S&P maybe :?:

Guides to the Cubes and doing time
A book of weapons, vehicles and equipment (ala Chrome books) - Essential in my opinion.
A MC-1 Lifestyles Source Book (preferably as a hardback 24.99 job)
Justice Babe of the week mudwrestling - Anderson vs DeMarco (ok thats not gonna happen but it sounds good). :(

Guide to the Cubes and Doing Time - I love this idea.

Book of Weapons & Equipment - This would also be very handy. For my Judge campaign, I need all the vehicles, weaponry, armor, and equipment I can get to keep my Judges on their toes. My next campaign will probably be a perp one, and so my players will then want this book to help them cause mayhem.

MC-1 Lifestyles Source Book - This could be really helpful. It's hard to imagine the average lifestyle for citizens. This could help us with creating crime blitzes and getting a better feel for the city.

Mudwrestling with Anderson vs. DeMarco - Maybe an artist can put something together for the Page 45 hottie in S&P.

Yep, it's still there. I actually have the graphic novel that the pictures are from and it's a very cool read.

Given this post, it looks like its open season potentially for Slaine and some other lines........

Basically, there is a limit to how many books even we can produce every month and we all believe that the Slayer's Guides and Encyclopaedias have both enjoyed a hell of a run.

On the other hand. . .

One idea I have been toying with is letting other people use the Slayer's Guides, Encyclopaedias and other old Mongoose series, and perhaps even sub-licencing supplements for our older licenced games.

All these books still reguarly sell more than enough to build a viable business plan around and support a small games company. Some of their fans are very loyal to the series. It is the best of both worlds - fans would still get their books and someone would get the benefit from that. On top of that, we are also in possession of a large number of manuscripts for various lines (we have a _lot_ of Slayer's Guides and Encyclopaedias on file!), which I am sure their authors are dying to see in print.

So, whether you are an existing company or someone looking to break into the RPG market, if you are interested in this idea drop me a line at msprange@mongoosepublishing.com. If anyone comes up with a _solid_ business plans for lines such as these, we will give it full consideration.

that would be nice :D but the mag is better than nothing and as it is written by a real fan am looking forwards too it

This true but why not use the fans work as a jump off point and use that to actually write a book? I can't wait to read it and get some great stuff from it just would be nice to at some point maybe even make a compilation book of all the Slaine articles into one massive volume or volumes?
