What is up with the wide paqes and flashing red blocks?

Most sysdamins would just write a line of code at the server level quietly blocking hotlinking. You can do it in your sleep, if you know your server architecture - and these guys know enough about server-side architecture to make up a big, flashy banner.

Which means their interest is hardly financial, if they can waste so much expensive bandwidth in sending out such big, noisy warnings.

Which means their motive is more to do with trolling than saving money.

No real harm zero!

Thanks for the translation alex_greene, interesting to see how much of that I got right with no real knowledge of French! (Of course, a lot of English words come from French beginnings and I know a bit of Spanish...)

And I agree - these guys were just being obnoxious jerks - and at their own expense as well as potential innocent recipients for those with limited bandwidth accounts on forums. In effect, they were doing what they accused others of in terms of financial losses.

As to 'protecting' their IP... content wasn't actually reproduced (obviously) and the amount of content in a larger work is a subject of variability as to actual violation - and something for courts to debate...
