What is up with the wide paqes and flashing red blocks?

I've been browsing the message base, and keep encountering posts wherein the page size gets all wide, the text is compressed in the right side, and there's big flashing red blocks accompanied by French text.

What's up with this?

I'm seeing it on the Cthonian Stars thread below, specifically in a post made by Zero.

EDIT: Definitely an issue related to the avatar that Zero is using.

I see, but I really see this for the first time, I have not the slightest idea

My French is rusty, but what I am gathering is that Zero used an avatar image that resides on mangaluxe.com's server. Unless he pays up or withdraws the image, mangaluxe is kidnapping the topic text, wherever the avatar appears.



However, I am now reading Book 0 and will soon start the Core Rulebook and not having a topic to distract me is probably a bonus! (Yes, I am making lemonade with my lemons!)

I have Adventures and Supplements and Books and Compendiums and Aliens to absorb! Oh frabjous day!

I think it is because the image zero tried to us, by a link, is being blocked by the site linked to, it appears to have infringed some sort of French copy protection. To stop it, you have to block the site from your PC. Seems to have stopped for me.

Great, zero really has an interesting taste when it comes to avatars, this
is the second time in only a few days that one of his avatars causes pro-

FWIW it's fine here, in both Firefox and IE. Of course I have a generation or two older than the latest and greatest of both so maybe it was a recent browser update with some enhanced "security" features that are screwing it up. I dunno.

I'm using Firefox, latest version. Right clicking on the flashing red image and choosing block image from yyy.com did the trick.

I was on my older PC earlier, running XP, and as I said above it was all fine. Now I'm on my laptop running Vista (not by choice) and it is indeed as described. Very annoying.

Yep - zero's avatar is on a site that doesn't allow hotlinking (obvious to me from the text without direct translation - now I get what Language 0 skill reflects!).

far-trader your older browser may not support animated gifs (really old), chokes on the extreme dimensions of this gif, or you have an add blocker program that is blocking animated gifs!

The forum program should limit the displayed size (simple HTML) of the avatars - I block several of them on this forum just because they waste too much scene space...

P.S. - sent lastbesthope a pm about the avatar - not sure he can edit a user's info, but FYI so he doesn't get a ton of PMs.

Hmm, wouldn't this also be fixed if zero removed that avatar?

It also affects Win7/Chrome, has affected several of the threads I was following.

I didn't appreciate Latin Mass I endured as a child until I was an adult and found I could read most of what is written in the Romance languages. Although, Romanian is a bit too difficult.

Seriously? Grow up. They are protecting their IP and they are the ones paying for their server. Maybe you'd like to contribute to their server operation financially? Maybe you don't think your own various author contributions should be your IP?

Their method certainly gets ones attention. And flags the person responsible for making the various fora they flaunt their linking on. The only one at fault here is zero for failing to read the site's policy on linking. He got caught at it. It's being fixed. C'est finis.
