What do you want?

Warhammer has had bestmen since the 80s, and they're chaotic. Their depiction is suspiciously familiar too...

Right. And didn't Games Workshop provide RQ3 distribution in the U.K. for Avalon Hill?

Wouldn't be the first idea they ever borrowed :)

The Adeptus Arbites run around enforcing the law, with black uniforms and yellow pads on the shoulders. One shoulder usually has an imperial eagle.

I do believe they began showing up around the same time GW did the original Judge Dredd RPG.

But I can still wish that broos were in there too. :-)

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out alternative names for a similar type of creature - unfortunately "Chaos Beastmen" would likely cause even more legal trouble than "Broo" :)

You could call the satyrs, fauns, or how about Gruff :D

Am I alone in hating Ducks? Keep them in Glorantha, where they belong. Any Duck setting foot in Sarandur will be plucked and roast!

That would be a very intereting RPG experience. A group of ducks get transported to Sarandur, and have to learn how to protect themselves from the humans who find them not only undesrable, but delicious.

As far as stuff that I'd like tosee, whell, I have already started on notes for MRQ books for a Swashbuckling/High Seas setting as well as notes for an Ancient Roman setting. I'm sort of waiting to see what is in the companion so I see what stuff I'll need to tweak.

But if someone were to save me all the trouble and effort and produce good supplments for these settings, I'd buy them.

Also a book of NPC stats in the tradion of Runelords, Foes, or like the stuff done for RQ Vikings and Pendragons, with poor-fair-good-expert-master quality opponents would be very helpful, It is nice to have "generic bandit" or "generic brown bear" stats on hand.

One thing I would like to see is either a book or maybe even a computer disk of squads of just NPC and monsters. Lets face it one problem with Runequest is it does not lend itself to just random encounters with monsters. I really dont like to pick a random number off the top of my head to determine if the Bartender catches the Player cheating at dice, or figure out everyones unarm combat skill, hi tpoints, strength ect. when the bar room brawl follows.

I wouldnt mind seeint npc and monster stat carts the siize of a small index card (multipull per page) that you could cut out and put in and index card box and make a NPC card catlog and randon draw generator.

Why not save the trouble and just have them printed and sold on index sized card stock?

For PDF's just have them formatted in 4x6.

I did up Pendragon and Bond index cards years ago and they were (and still are) very helpful. Professionally produced RQ NPC-stat cards would be great.

JUst whip pout generic scropion men stats and go.

Umm I might have to do it the hard way and wright it by hand, like I did for me 1st ed stormdringer game.

THat is how I started the Pendragon ones. I still have them.

I was thinking of you suggestion in terms of something for Tim's company to produce.

As far as personal use goes, I can print stuff up on index cards. It is sort of standard now for weapon an vechile stats, inclduing a picture. I can just make up copies and hand them out to the players or paperclip them to the handouts.

But I'd love if it a company were to print NPCs, animals and such in a 4x6 format.

If you wanted to make some under OGL for sale, you could just sell them as a pdf or word doc. Keep in cheap and put up a good number of card in a set and you could make some money. If you know someone who can draw and put art on the backside, so much the better.

Maybe I'll pull out my copy of Foes and see how hard it would be to MRQ up a sample card.

You know I might, once Mongoose (hinthint) releses the OGL to the general public, and I do have a find that is a prity good artiiest.

Go for it.

I'm sorta lucky, I know a half dozen artists who I could "shanghai" if I decided to do a project. One has had his wrok printed in RPGs before.

A really clever approach woyuld be to work up something like an NPC generator that prints out on index cards. You could either print a PDF, the actual cards, or even the program.

Bard Games Arcanum (1984,1985) had a similar concept called "Andaman."

The greeks had Fauns and Satyrs, Minetaurs, and several other man-beast hybrids.

The egyptians had animal headed hominids for their deities.

Some of the norse sagas reference men with beast's heads as monsters.

We've now got some public domain expressions of the idea, and several non-PD expressions, meeting the old historian's standard of: 1 or 2 is plagiarism, 3 or more is Research!!!

Hey, here's an idea: call them halflings: half-man, half beast... and make them more generic than the broo... ;) Kills two birds with one stone, so to speak... makes halflings not Tolkien's diminutive brits, and works around the broo. Just need to find some more citations, and make certain they're in there... ;)
