Saw the supplement the other day and I'm curious as to exactly what rule books and such a person needs to be able to give it a go?

Thanks

You only need one of the Evolution books, either WaW or MC will do the job.
MC may be slightly better fitting, but the army list in there (as WaW) are not 100 % compatible (as far as the points and some stats are concerned) with Apocalypse.

Thanks for the info.

So can anyone instruct me a little bit about how the game plays? Never really looked at any of the Evolution products, but I'm a sucker for anything involving Zombies:)

Thanks

It's fun, quick to adjust from Modern Combat to Apocalypse Z. Unlike MC and WaW, Z is designed with scenario-driven games in mind. It is not easy for the survivors to win. Playing human is very challenging. At the same time, the unique units are very satisfying. (I like the firefighters best myself.)

Shotgun is correct... the best way to get the most enjoyment from Apocalypse-Z is t play scenarios (whether the one's in the book or custom made).

The humans do have a hard time of it, but we designed it that way. When Kermit and I created 'Z', we had all of our favorite zombie movies in mind. Overall, humanity is in a whole heap of hurt and, no matter how many bullets we have, we're on the losing end of a massed confrontation with zombies (especially given the special zombie units like Super Soldier and Overlord). The best we can hope for (right now anyway) is to survive and eek out a living as best we can. To put that into gameplay perspective, running a scenario where the humans gather resources such as food, ammo, and fuel makes the game more balanced. People are going to die, but if the survivors are able to get some of the resources back to their hiding places, then its a win for the tattered remnants of our species.

Once you get a hang of the Evo system and 'Z' modifications, its a good idea to try creating your own scenarios. We'd love to hear about them. Several players have already made up their own and posted the results on this forum and on our forums over at http://www.explodinggoatgames.com.

One of the Goats has been working on a scenario involving anime and 'Z' and Kermit and I have been tossing around the beginning ideas for some supplements including more surviving human "pockets of civilization" and some more zombie units. Its still a ways off before it hits the pavement, but we're looking forward to it.

Also, this summer at GenCon, Goat Josh is running several demos over the first few days of the con... stop by if you happen to be in Indy!

Start with this:

Gives you the baseline but you'll probably (like me) need to get all the rules since there are traits that aren't listed in 'Z' that come from the main rules of BE.

I think its a really cool game-getting my friends to think that is another story :)

Im actually working on some models for the higher level zombies using Horrorclix models.

The old rulebook is now superseded by BfEvo: Modern Combat.
You can play some of the scenarios, but the rules are now outdated.
