Weapon Ranges DM

Looking at the Weapon Ranges and the DM's they give, is there an errata.
Only It does not seem like the shotgun range bracket makes much sense other than at long range the pistol is better. As SMG's fit int he shotgun rnge, this dosn't make sense to me.

Any help out there.

In my books...

          S      M       L
Pistol   +0     -2      -4
Shotgun  -1     -2      -3

So the pistol better than shotgun/smg at short range, but the latter better at long.

Make sense?
