WAVE 1 SST Previews up in S&P

I asume Drop Capsules will come back again.
Sixguns vs Air Targets, well now you have Firestorms. They aren't THAT bad.
Firestorm gets Piercing/4 now, that's almost Killshot.
3 Inches less jump may be nasty.
12" Command range are indeed stupid.

Well I for one am going to give up on the comparisons to old versions of units. If I have to accept that they have redone the game then I guess it comes naturally that they are going to do the same to most of the units. Hopefully they will try as hard to retain the flavor of other units as they seem to have done, while keeping things balanced and fun.

Hopefully I can con someone into playing with me this weekend so I can find out!

S&P Exos look like they get 2 Firestorms when they replace the sixguns. Only two models/unit can do it though, not sure how I feel about that. It's a shame they can't target separate units like the heavy weapons within AT-43 squads.

The "good news" for my Exosuits is that I just finished working up seventeen of the models, and modded them all with magnets so that I can change weapons into any combination that you can think of . The "bad news" is that I just worked my ass off on a detailed article on how to do that to your models, and also used the Army Book (now outdated) and worked out an entire background story for my "platoons" (really upper-average squads of 5-6 troops). BTW, can someone help my failed vision (maybe it's not me, here's hoping ) and tell me what the new unit cost is to add additional models? I'm a bit confused, as the basic squad is 330 (easy to read). The fluff says that a basic squad is a sergeant and two troopers (privates). So either a basic trooper costs 100 and the sarge costa 130 (to make 330, see?), or a basic trooper costs 110 and someone forgot to cost in the sarge into the 330 point tally. Something has to give. I just want to know what it is... I suppose if they let us see the reverse side of the Exosuit stat card, alot of outr questions about weapons and such might be answered. In other words, where did my Thermic Lances go to? (I hope to the card back).

Matt has mentioned none of the old models will be made obsolete despite the unit changes. Specifically in reference to certain skinny models with constrictor rifles when the new unit cards don't have them.

It's likely we'll see Exos with classic loadouts, but probably in a rules release specifically for classic SST players. Or, since Exos now operate more like one unit in an army, we may see other exo types that use the classic layouts.

One thing I'm wondering is where are the Y racks?

My guess is that they are on the card back.

but without multihit, my whole army list (that I just finished yesterday, wanted o order soon...) is made obsolete, not a chance of stopping anything big anymore.

well I never really understood why I should mix weapons on a grizzly anyway.
But not being able to vary my targets was/is something I already vehemently dislike in the classic SST rules.
If I take 3 grizzlys, two with sixguns and one with firestorms, and want the firestorm one to fire onto a tanker and the rest to fire on some warriors, I can only fire with half of my firestorm dice at the tanker and have to waste half of my sixgun fire???? (not even counting the two dice I loose anyway)
Hope that gets fixed in Evo.

What Im wondering is: will they finally be useful?

edit:
and yes Im as pessimistic as its sound, exactly the moment Im finally convinced to start SST and make myselves a nice exosuit army list a new profile comes up and takes anything away that made the army effective and cool, hooray...

Let's hope so, it'd be a real shame to lose LAMI snipers... Maybe they'll become independent now?

Seems I did read it correctly... Why no more LAMI snipers? ^^"

They don't come in wave 1 box. That's why.

Rules will however appear eventually and guess there will be booster packs with those later as well.

of course there is also this little passage on downgrading cover into obscure when firing into enemies, but well.plus, max 12" means thatwhith a bit of thinking the enemy won't ever catch all of your guys in a single firezone.

2xD10 is a bit better than d6,when the target is flying at any speed beyoond loiter.

on the whole-the exos were a bit over the top in the old rules, now they'r jut brought under control.

In other words, where did my Thermic Lances go to?
to the place where all useless weapons go-obviously we'r going to see them in LAMI squads next time

I think someone just missed that in the new split fire rule.
It makes absolute no sense to locate damage dice 50/50 between fire zones.
You waste a huge amount of Sixguns to shoot a King Tanker and that's just dumb.
Reminds me of 40k where the Missile Launchers an Lascannons have to shoot at Gaunts if the rest of the Squad does.
That just crap.

Oh, one more question, where did the Flame Trait of the Tanker Spit go?

Oh, now that's a relief :D

Poko - thermic lance as a "heavy weapon" for LAMIs? Having a third "special" weapon would be an interesting idea, even though a bit w40k-ish ;) And that the regular hel flamer would be a more interesting option.

And exos over the top? Where? Easy to bring down, very few in number... Only the twin firestorm squads or twin firestorm officers were a serious threat to enemies, but even they required quite a portion of cover and care from rest of the army to survive for more than an initiall salvo. Twin sixgun squads were able to try and firefight LAMIs, but at best were at even.

...damnit

I finally get into painting and creating my own miniatures, now I have to go back to prepainted? wtf. I liked hand building my armies.

Or we are just going to have to wait a bit for them...Remember: Mongoose isn't going to invalidate your models. If they would remove thermic lances they would be invalidating models. Not good bussiness move...

Speaking as somebody who has 112 or thereabout LAMI, with 2 special weapons per squad and half of them sniper rifles, so it is!

(still need to buy 4 special weapons or I have 2 squads without special weapons...)

Twin sixgun squads were able to try and firefight LAMIs, but at best were at even.

You didn't find twin sixguns able to cut down warriors in droves?

well will prob be joining in SST with the 4th, depending on prices of course :)

I'd say they'll be pretty expensive...

I'd bet on 25-30 dollars for the Fenir and maybe 7-10 dollars per Fenos. I don't forsee any Forth model being under 5 dollars unless Matt feels very generous :)

well in dollars i can live with those prices :) unfortunately in pounds prob means 20 for the Fenir and 8 for the Fenos. hmm maybe use paypal to pay in dollars but get it delivered to UK :)

just joking there- i have no idea what they did to the lance, but you won't find me mourning it's passage :P
And exos over the top? Where?
capital city of Warsaw.Ursynów dictrict
seriously-it may be because of small table sizes, but exos most times owned un-prepared armies, and were able to go reasonably with bugs.
only skinnies were a problem,but then,skinnies look like the ultimate exo-sweeper 8)
