Wargames Vault exchange rates?

Something very odd is going on at Wargames Vault

There is an option to see prices in UK£, but it has no effect. You get charged in US$, relying on the exchange rate offered by your card provider rather than the site.

Hence the price you see and the price you pay can be different.

Not good.

Not that uncommon thing in my experience. Some shops use some currency and then allow rough estimation of other currencies by converting them with multiplier. Orders still charged with original currency so depending on difference between shops multiplier and real multiplier can alter the price.

Benefit for the shop is avoiding currency min-maxing. As they likely can't update in real time the multiplier(heck isn't that even bank dependant as well?) customers could get savings by using some other currency(for example ATM it's just plain stupid for euro customers to pay in euros rather than in pounds). With one base currency store can have steady price that doesn't fluctuate based on what happens to be cheapest currency ATM.

I get mine from rpg now and have no problems and prefer the site. You can view the £ value no problem.

I have no experience with Wargames Vault so cannot comment.

Why not ask the guys from the Vault?
They were always very helpful to me!

Poi,

Steve from Wargame Vault here.

Our system for non-US Dollar currency is imperfect I regret.

When you browse the site in GBP, when you check-out, if you choose to pay via Paypal, you will be charged exactly the price in GBP that you saw on site while browsing. Regardless of whether you pay by credit card and use Paypal to process it or pay from your own Paypal account. Your charge will come through to you as GBP for that amount.

If you choose to pay for an order directly with your own credit card, then we use our credit card processor who only handles USD transactions, so we are forced to convert your order back from GBP to USD and give you that warning message that you read. Your charge will come through to you as a USD charge and be converted by your bank to GBP at a rate which we cannot know or control.

Also, we operate both RPGNow and Wargame Vault, so the processing is actually the same on both sites (and your customer account on one site works on the other as well).

Sorry for the confusion this causes. We know it's imperfect, but we aren't quite a large enough operation yet to justify taking on card processing in GBP and EUR yet.

That's useful to know. I'll use Paypal in future in that case.

Thanks for coming on to explain. Good customer service. Like it.

Unless the credit card conversion rate is more favourable ;)

Remeber to factor in any charges your card provider may make the rate may be better, but the charges may more than offset that.
