Wanna a Sommerswerd?

You know, a LRP-safe Sommerswred would probably be very popular.......

It probable would and very cost effective too, if you could shift the sales. I would pass on it my self. If the price goes up enough It could be that it is worth approaching a sword smith directly that way you can get just what you want.

It would be a *dream* to have a replica of the Sommerswerd. I don't know that I would be able to go to four digits for it...please, please release something more affordable then that; not cheap...but at least keeping it to three digits.

Personally I'd raise an eyebrow at anyone weilding a Sommerswerd in a fashion requiring it to be "combat ready" and perfectly balanced.

Along with most of the replies, I would not be capable of purchasing the kind of replica suggested in the original post. And honestly, I'm not sure I'd want to... I have a particularly strong distaste for jeweled swords of any kind. To me they tend to look fairly ridiculous. Jewels on a sword just smack of an overly-ostentatious nature unbecoming of the Kai, in my opinion.

I'd be much more interested in an unsharpened replica with a standard steel blade, but perhaps a gold-plated crossbar, and lacking of any glass or real jewels. Something priced in the 150-300 GBP range.

That's not really in the spirit of the original post however. We're not really discussing what the majority of us could afford, we're discussing an extremely unique item... a Special Item, if you will. And as such, I think the original post would do well to reflect that.

Considering we have a post jump from November to April to June, I have to ask if this is even being considered anymore.

"Afford" is something of a relative term. I went on my first cruise a couple of years back for a week hitting some of the southern Caribbean islands and with all expenses factored in, it ran about $3000 US. That's a lot of money and it definitely crunched my wallet but I'm doing it again come February (and it's going to crunch my wallet again).

Could I afford the Sommerswerd? If I really wanted it, yes (though it would no doubt crunch my wallet). However, I would never even consider such a purchase unless I knew the exact cost, exactly what it would look like (and how much it would weigh, how long is it, does it come with a scabbard, etc.).

If they aren't moving forward with this its irrelevant anyways.

It is being considered - however, this is not an easy thing. The hold up is working how to produce a real sword with a golden blade!

Personally I would like a very high quality, but affordable (up to a few hundred bucks) letter opener kind of thing rather than a full size sword. After all, A full size weapon takes up quite a bit of space to display it with pride - something you would want to do after spending hundreds (or thousands!) on the thing. :)

I don't ever recall a golden blade (it always looked like steel in the old pictures). However, if Joe says it's got a golden blade - it's got a golden blade and I'm not going to argue with him.

I always imagined the gold was the glow, not the blade...but like he said, Mr. Dever would be the boss; but perhaps the golden blade on the replica would be a way to pay homage to the golden glow of the blade?

Well, maybe it`s because I`m not the kinda guy who decorates his livingroom with ancient-looking closecombat weapons...
but I think a golden blade is way to much. Not only for the costs... in my opinion a sword whith a golden blade looks pretty gay, but perhaps I am just to much of a macho

Use aluminium/aluminum for the blade and anodise it gold instead. You'll probably want blunt edges in order to make it a trophy item rather than a weapon though.

Book 2 has always said it was a golden sword. So I would be expecting things to be golden as well ;)

I realise this is late in the day but just in case Matthew was wondering - I have plenty enough "display replicas" that are not balanced quite right, are unwieldy or too light-weight to be useful.

If you can find a way to make a combat-ready blade that would rock and would definitely be my preferred solution, even if it was costly.

Even if you are forced to leave some unsharpened for shipping purposes or something.

How is the search for "yellow steel" going, Master Sprange?

That is what we are looking at - one of the country's top swordsmiths is on the case (I have seen his past work, and it is incredible). Ultimately, _if_ this happens, we want it done properly. No short cuts.
