Vree Xeel?

I don't really think it is a case of what is missing. The league skirmish carriers are a very different class of ship from a fleet carrier.

The way I see it (and I might be wrong) is that they are meant to release their flights, and then join the fight. Were-as a fleet carrier's job is to support their fighters (+1 dogfight), and keep them co-ordinated and in the fight (4+ roll to rejoin the fight). What weapons they have is more for self defence. Giving the skirmish carriers the fleet carrier trait wouldn't really be in keeping with what they are, a fighting ship that carries fighters.

I think if you want to talk about what is the "best carrier" I think you have to break it down into "best carrier in its class". I think the xeel would slightly edge out the milani, the milani has more dice and shields, but the xeels ability to stay out of arc, and the harder hitting nature of its turreted weapon gives it my vote. But its a hard call.

I think Banichi's right on this one. Both the Milani and the Xeel are essentially combat vessels that happen to carry fighters. Though it would be nice if they the Carrier trait (not Fleet Carrier), since they're specifically labeled as 'carriers.' I mean, the Brikorta is roughly equivalent, and it has Carrier 2...

Well there is also the idea that a race calls a ship a certain thing to carry out a task and the game rules for such a ship. The Narn have a carrier - well sort of - but its not a proper fleet carrier even though it is raid as apparently they don't have the need/tech/want/ability/whatever for a fleet carrier? :)

Wekll the naming carrier is dependant on the respective race. And not our human view.

Vree might consider launching their precious fighters a rare thing. How many ships are actually graced with the ability to carry them? Other races might disdain fighters, so they simply havent thought about it at all (Im looking at you abbai) so they just dont hve the tech.

Just because us humans as a fighterdependent race have developed a fleet carrier with a launch rate of 8 flights per round (The space nimitz), doesnt mean that other races did the same.

Yeah, I get all that, and I really don't mind. It adds character and diversity to the fleets, which is good. I still think it'd be nice... but it's not something I'm going to kick up a fuss over.

The 5 point raid force of vree I'm putting together will have two. (when the other one is finished that is). They have got to be one, if not the best, skirmish level carrier out there. Although that could be as much due to the fighters it carries as the ship itself.

The 5 point Raid fleet I have used has 6 of them. 2 Xills, 6 Xeels.

I like the Brikorta. It disgorges its fighters and then becomes another ship in the fleet with some decent weapons. I like that about the League "carriers". Most of their ships are warships with a secondary carrier capability and not purpose-built like the Avenger or Poseidon.

I ordered a Xeel, so we'll see what it does and how good it is once I get it to the table. :)

Just was wondering if the lack of carrier trait was an oversight or deliberate.

Chris

Probably deliberate, as others have said it is a competent warship that also carries fighters - much like an Omega or Sharlin.

I think the Drazi need some way of carrying more fighters :D even our carrier only has 3 of each type and thats at battle level!

Ya, the Drazi always puzzled me a bit when looking at thier fleet lists. For a racethats as dependent on Patrol and skirmish lvl, lots of F arc guns and nothing else, thier lack of fighters is a bit wierd. Or is because their ships are overgrown fighters the reason Drazi don't really utilize fighters? If a tree falls in a .... *Shakes head*. Anyways, there any reason for that?

Drazi are deliberately played as fools and idiots in this game sadly. They had the largest empire in the league, surely they couldn't have been that incompetent. Especially given they almost total reliance on a 'bore' arc....not even front where one ship could somewhat cover another.

One thing that is strange in the game is that fighters are often expected to be at the fights bought as independent wings, but there is little background devoted to how they get around.

In the episodes we see them entering hyperspace alongside of capitol ships, through either jump gates or jump points opened by the ships themselves. I'd surmise that this would be for short trips but its doable.

It's capital ships. This isn't some misspelled building in Washington you're talking about.

Hey! If I wanted to get nagged I'd get married. But, I stand corrected. ;)
Thank you Mr. Webster or your equivolent.

P.S. Would it not be wonderful to have spell check on forums everywhere? ;>

Don't mention Webster to me. That man should have been shot for crimes against language...

Oh, his work was as much political as practical. Even without that, God knows I would never want to assume such a task. I have flashbacks to the Blackadder episode with Dr. Johnson. ;)

What something like this? It's a live spell checker thingy in the languages of your choice, you need to be using Mozilla Firefox as your internet browser.
