Vree Xeel?

If you want a raid carrier why not another variant of the xill something along the following:

speed - 8
turns - 1/90
hull - 5
damage - 30/12
crew - 44/14 troops - 1
craft - 8
specials - AF 8, carrier 2, JE

antimatter cannon 6 AD
antimatter shredder 8 AD

I left the carrier trait low and didnt give it fleet carrier because of the fluff.

RE: the Xeel, I think that its the best Vree skirmish pick by a good margin, that said I could live with a minus 1 or 2 from its AD, but then again so could the Demos, apologies to the great haired ones.

The more I looked at it the more I liked the idea of dropping to the 10" vaarka guns. It is a great defensive gun, but not good vs real warships (hull 6, and really you should be running form those) and not useful for projecting firepower (15 is good range on a skirmish ship for the most part) which you have fighters for. Plus you can't use an SA or Scout to increase your ship based firepower.

Drop to that gun (4 AD is fine) and give it carrier 1/2, now its a carrier. Right now its a combat ship with fighters.

Look at the rest of the Vree fleet, and especially how many fighters each ship carries. From the Vree perspective, the Xeel is most definitely a carrier.

From the vree perspective it is, but from the vree perspective you should be satisfied that you even have the option to bring fighters to the table on a ship and not be complaining you can't replace them free between turns.

I just saying that when you go to add a ship type to the game, one of two things has to happen, either you have to somewhat follow the established pattern of a balanced ship, or be more expensive/less expensive, based on deviations in power and effect.

The drazi strikehawk is a fine ships and under the drazi cannon could certainly be called a carrier. It dropped minimal firepower for a useful flight. I would never call it a carrier, its a fighting ship that has a fighter. The nightfalcon is a carrier, it gave up significant amounts of firepower for increase fighter load and an auxilary command trait. Still can fight, but it's clearly under gunned as a ship for its priority level without the fighters. The xeel is not under gunned, under defended or even slower... it gave up nothing for four of the best fighters in the game.

I agree that the balance seems a bit off, and that there's no real need for the fighter spawning. I just think that the Xeel should be kept as a combat ship that also carries fighters, rather than being changed to a fighter carrying ship that also might see combat.

While you're at it, get a real one, from a little place Oxford, about a hundred miles from me. Not one of your colonial knock-offs...

Well now. Aren't we getting a bit picky? ;) Ya'll just don't appreciate some of the refinements we've added to the mother tongue. Especially the removal of those useless extra vowel. Quite pretentious. ;)

To the debate over one mistyped word...

TDtD, go check your own posts for perfection and leave mine out of it. You've got your own issues with 'little place Oxford' that is missing a word or a punctuation mark.

If I have been using the wrong spelling it was not intentional, just an artifact of typing with to little sleep.

oh, on the Xeel thingie...

Yes I would rather it remained a fighting ship that happened to carry fighters too, but to be that and balanced it needs to lose something substantial as right now it is too strong by a good stretch. Compared to the Milani (its closest cousin as far as purpose goes) it is far too effective.

Great fighters, good maneuver, good damage for its level, great gun for its level... just needs to tweak down a bit so that it compares well with its class mates and is not such an obvious choice over the other ships in the fleet list.

It's not a debate, it's called humour. I'm just tired of seeing people say "cannon" when they mean "canon." Don't take it personally.

I love my trick of missing words out of sentences, I really do. Not sure how I do it... :?
