Vorlon paintjobs

Mongoose
How have you painted your Vorlons? I seem to remember David Anla'Shok talking about using a sponge to get a mottled pattern which sounds like a good idea (except I would need a sponge) - any other suggestions? At the moment I'm just assembling the models and putting an ochre undercoat on them since they'll be yellow/green when done.

The sponge is the way forward. Just mix up a lighter and a darker tone from your main body and splodge away.

For the inside of the 'wings' use regal and enchanted blue, I found.

I think my vorlons should still be on my photobucket...

Nope. I went with a white primer coat, followed by various ink washes and two dry brush coats. It's a difficult effect to recreate, isn't it?

Sponge.. not having an airbrush handy I think it's the best way to go.

I used chopped-up yellow kitchen sponges, they have plenty of different sized holes and make good patters. I also used this for Shadows and some planets.

DUDE!!! Next time you refer people to your Photobucket account, can you PLEASE make sure there aren't any naked pictures of yourself!!!

I've found that to paint them canon to the series (rather than how MGP presents them), that a black ink "spray" effect is a better way to go.

I used a golden yellow over a black undercoat (future schemes will have a white undercoat), then several washes of yellow ink. I finished off with black ink spray effects.

The blue was done with GW Ice Blue followed by a blue inkwash.

Pics can be found by clicking on my signature below. (No nudity, I promise).

I really like the effect you've got there, it does look a lot more true to the screen colours. Could you go through how to achieve it?

(And thank you for not including pictures of some bloke's naked backside in your album...!)

Several races have fairly organic textures that are quite challenging to get right. Minbari, Vorlons, ISA and Drakh all fall into that category. I have also found that careful washing and highlighting seems to give the best results.

Those are nice!

Great fade effects on the "fins" :D
Thanks! :)

I am pretty pleased with them. The only trouble is that they took me so long I was fielding a fleet with only 2 painted ships for months.

Just felt this thread needed another pic of these ships.
Sweet paintjob!

I base coated them black then painted Red Gore on them and then hit them with purple ink letting it run all over the place. If I had a good digital camera Id show ya but it came out good maroonish looking with darker and lighter areas all over so it looks moving there symbol done in green with a lighter green drybrushed so it looked glowy like and the band shadow grey.

I am trying a different approach on mine. I have base coated them yellow and am going to "smoke" them to get the organic texture on them. My dad is an old time biker and they used to use this meathod on the frame of some of their Harleys. You take a plastic fork and break off one of the prongs, you then light it on fire and wave the model through the black smoke back and forth until you are happy with the result. I have done it on one of my transports and will be doing my bigger cruisers tonight, I am really pleased with the end result. i'll be sure to take pics tonight. You need to do this outside as the stench from the burning plastic will be overwhelming.
