VorchaN at Patrol level

TGT

Banded Mongoose
Before 2e comes out I wanted to play the vorchan in a few games but at Patrol level.
What would people suggest should be lost to reduce the Vorchan to a viable patrol level ship?

my suggestion is; that the following remain as is;

Hull 5
Turns 2/45
JP

Damage 15/5

these to be reduced;

Crew 15/5 (from 20/5)
range AD special
Plasma acc 12 3 (was 4) AP DD
Twin particle array 8 4 (was 8 ) TL

That sounds about right for a patrol level vorchan. You wouldn't want to start messing with damage points as vorchan are delicate enough, and there are other patrol ships with more than that, eg the abbai tiraca. I'd love for them to have a dodge score in 2e, I think it would be fitting for a ship that fast to have one.

We also never see Londo saying "Bah, what is this pile of crap the Emperor calls a 'ship'? Its not fit to be a Narn latrine!"

So the fluff on the Vorchan is a bit inaccurate ;)

Yes read the G'Koth fluff in Armageddon. It uses speed rather than thick armour for defence... and has speed 4. Riiiiight.

so I guess people think its fair?

Burger could you add this to the unoffical list on your site or send me a version ..really big please and thanks if you could!!

the only ships you ever see dodge in B5 are WSs. even fighters dont attempt to dodge either in their dogfights or being fired on by main weapons from battleships.

why would you want it at Patrol? :?

I think the ship should be at Raid myself, the firepower it packs is often seen ripping apart G'Quans, Aviokis, Warbirds, White Stars.....

According to a lot of "technical" sites I've seen for B5, the Vorchan is listed as a "medium attack cruiser," and the general capabilities listed for it (based on screen performance, usually) put it about level with a Hyperion or similar ship.

Of course, the Centauri already have plenty of raid choices, so the Vorchan would have to compete with the Centurion, Altarian, Sulust, etc. for fleet space. At skirmish it's more attractive for its cost.

true, though again my personal preference would be to swap the Vorchan and Sulust

As an escort destoryer, the Sulust would fit at skirmish ok. Model might beed to be scaled down a bit... :wink:

If you upgrade the Vorchan to raid, the Centauri fleet box becomes a lot more top-heavy. It'd have eight raid ships and two battle ships, plus eight fighter flights.

The Vorchan is fine at skirmish, really, it just needs decent stats to make it usable alongside other ships of its level. From what I've heard, it will be about right in 2nd ed.

The Sulust is smaller than the Vorchan! :wink:

no more top heavy than currently.....

I'm sure you know best about the size of the Sulust model. I don't have one, yet. I don't see how moving up the Vorchan would make the fleet box no less top heavy than it is now. Currently you get six skirmish choices, two raid choices and two battle choices, plus eight fighter flights. If the Vorchan became raid it'd be eight raid and two battle, plus fighters. That's a significant move up the PL ladder.

swapping the vorchan and sullust would be ok IMO. the only thing then is the darkner would need a new role as at skirmish both it and the sullust currently are beam ships.
perhaps the darkner could b a light carrier (better than the Amar) as it really does look like one to me. has the whole bay thing down the middle with openings front and back, makes me thing of BSG a little.

That's a good point. A carrier at skirmish with four flights aboard could be useful. It'd need abilities to make it worth using, though, since you can get eight flights for the same price by taking them as patrol choices...

well i have forwarded some ideas along these lines, making the vorchan raid, the sullust skirmish and the darkner a carrier. i think seeing the vorchan at raid would be good for such an iconic ship.
