Vehicle Handbook Update 2026 - Now Here!

STRUCTURE

Structure is derived from Hull. How, exactly? I cannot find any specific explanation in the new VHB

It's in the examples (Appendix I). Will post more once I have gone through the whole book... or unless Geir pops in.
Structure is hull divided by 10, rounded up. Hull is based on spaces and vehicle type, and can be raised or lowered from standard (reinforced hull)

Besides, the whole point of releasing the PDF before the print edition is so we can get some of the errors caught before it gets a final printer ready version. :P

Yes? What does that have to do with anything? Are you proposing that we don't release the pdfs early and go back to the old way? Or do you want the printed versions to be delayed even more?

Or was this just a non sequitur?

One of my players is getting it on DriveThroughRPG but isn’t seeing it yet. Can you click submit a few more times?
Part of the problem may be this: the file name is "The_Vehicle_Handbook_update_2026_-_Ebook_25-02-26.pdf", rather than (as I expected) "Vehicle_Handbook_update_2026_-_Ebook_25-02-26.pdf". That initial "The_" in the filename threw off the file's location in the list, so I didn't see it at first. Some naming consistency wouldn't go amiss!

Well that’s blunt.
Since we appear to be going with brutal honesty the quality control on the rush to print books has never been great. Doesn’t stop me ordering them though - this order puts me to over thirty plus a couple of boxed sets. However, being used to kickstarter delays It wouldn’t faze me in the slightest if a delay in printing led to reduced errata.

That's the whole point. The quality control in RPG books is generally not great and Mongoose has certainly never been one of the top performers in that area. They stopped the "rush to print" by putting the PDFs out well in advance of the books, because we'll find way more errors than they ever will. That's just a feature of more and fresher eyes.

It's true that this still does not attain perfection and it is entirely possible that I took that response to my post in a more negative tone than intended. I took it as some kind of counterpoint to my statement, which I don't think it is. If it was supposed to be read in a "sadly, they don't catch everything" tone rather than "bah, that doesn't work", then my bad and I apologize.

Dammit, saving hard to pay off the mortgage at the end of the year and you've proper done me again Mongoose Matt!
And I thought you were one of the good guys!
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal! 😄

Mongoose! Insanely excited to have the pdf in my hands. Can't wait for the catalogue. If I may make a suggestion. The multi-page tables (critical hits, weapons, etc.) are a bear to read/understand on pdf (even in two-page view). Is there any way we could get a downloadable supplement with these tables in landscape mode, or maybe an appendix where these tables are re-printed in landscape mode?

This is just a bit of constructive feedback. Thanks for being excellent stewards of the Traveller RPG.

It's even possible for a PDF to have different pages in different sizes/orientations. (Though you probably can't produce this automatically from the print master, so it would be more layout work.)

Okay here’s something that should be fixed. If meson guns strikes blow up inside the target it shouldn’t have the blast trait, if they are regular artillery they shouldn’t have the infinite armor piercing. I think the listed meson guns should lose the blast trait and that we should add a second category of meson artillery that’s smaller but doesn’t have armor piercing trait but does have the blast trait. Right now we have extra special meson artillery that’s not only blows up inside the target tank but also does external blast damage outside the target tank. I think having two classes Meson Gun and Meson Artillery the former has the extra targeting and controls to target a actual moving vehicle allowing the classic explosion inside the target with AP and the latter is actually artillery that targets a Area without AP and is smaller because it lacks much of the targeting and controls systems. This would both make sense and fit the existing lore

There would be primary blast area, and secondary blast area.

Assume that different sized meson guns are analogous to muzzle diameter, so that when the mesons reintegrate into the Einsteinian universe, the primary blast area would be the area they occupy, and the secondary being effect from that.
