Just letting folks know, I'm going to be hanging around on the Vassal server weekday nights and I'd obviously like to get a game or two in.

I had my first Vassal game with kritikalfailure last night and I must say it was very enjoyable. Nice fellow, walked me through the first rough baby steps and then proceeded to kick me where it hurts. It was a very small 2 point raid battle and my choice of ships was not optimal (opened book, picked first Centauri raid ships I saw). Didn't help that on turn 1 one of my two ships got cored by a beam weapon either.

I think I'll be playing some more.

Vassal loves beams. I've seen vassal routinely roll 2X a ship's starting beam dice in hits. I even had a 2AD beam weapon roll 10 hits.

ok, where do I get the Vassal download? I got what I thought was it but appears only to be the 2nd ed upgrade...

What you downloaded was the 2nd ed module for Vassal, the program itself is at www.vassalengine.org, it's a java based program, you can either download it or run it directly from the web page. You just tell it where the .zip file of the module is and open that within the program, and it opens the option to go online.

I recommend downloading rather than the run from the web page option.
When yuo run it from the web page, the amount of memory it allocates to Vassal is small and if you use alot of asteroid fields/dust clouds yuo can face a vassal crash.
Download it and install.(You can increase the set amount of memory this way).

ok, I got the Vassal Engine, but it does not seem to have any B5ACTA data in it. Where do I get that?

When in Vassal, click 'load module' or 'play module', then select that first file you downloaded.

which file? When I extracted the files from the 2ed mod, it turned into 4 more files and a folder of images...

You actually do not unzip that first file, you load the .zip file as a whole.

figures. OK. So that's the 2ed Mod, but where do I get the file with all the rest of the ACTA data?

all the rest of what ACTA data? thats everything you need/get. any more info use the rule/fleet books

How do I set up a game?

And does anyone want to hit up the Vassal Server to take me through a game?
