v2.0 Promotions and Skills

Well v2 anagathics are actually cheaper than v1, but they require you to make two survival rolls per term. That would be serious if failing a survival roll meant real lasting damage to the character - but it probably just means a career change.

Incidentally, requiring the second survival roll for anagathics means that the characters who are most likely to be worried about losing their physical edge (like navy pilots) are the least likely to take use them, since they have the most difficult survival rolls.

So the problem isn't with how skills are distributed, but that it's too easy to recover from mishaps. I've mentioned elsewhere that there should be a cap on medical debt, otherwise with anagathics you can effectively live forever while racking up ever increasing debt.
Look on the bright side: a character practically owned by a bank is a walking plot hook...

On a more serious note, yes, I agree that anagathics are open to abuse; they should have serious ramifications in order to balance their benefits.

If they weren't generally better than the downside, they wouldn't get used. In MT, where being able to take them during prior service was introduced formally, the Int+Edu limit on total skill levels was the major limitation; that one didn't get one's mustering out benefits was also present, and that they took 4 years to take effect made it further problematic.

TNE introduced massive side effects, making them useless.
