Using TV/novel/pulp series as a background

Burn Notice

One player has to be the burned agent - the others are his past 'friends'. His objective is to get back into the Agency he was falsely burned from - till then he can't leave the local system (the primary world should be a Garden Hi Tech world).

For PCs to survive they have to take odd jobs using their skills and connections from their former careers helping clients, and avoid being killed by main PC's former enemies and allies, while avoiding entanglements with local authorities and yet still trying to help him clear his name and get back in with his former Agency.

V - The Visitors

Use as is. The resistance is all over the planet so you can set your campaign in your home city.

If all else fails, set it in downtown Trenton, NJ. I guarantee the Visitors never took over here. I'm willing to bet they could never survive here.

Substitute Zhodani for greys and make hivers the creators of the "black oil" Have a whole prelude to the fifth frontier war.

Burn Notice

That's my current game, more or less...

Also:

Starhunter; as is. Or, alternatively, Cowboy Bebop.

The Professionals; set on a hi-tech but run down world, where everyone has bad haircuts, and insist on flying air/rafts through plate glass windows.

Planetes; garbage can be fun.

Buck Rogers (IT25C); nay bad setting, and skintight uniforms! ;)

UFO; cynicism and purple wigs.

Very funny. Inspirational even...

The A-Team :D
  • Munitions prices are 1% book - and reflect cases of 100.
  • All to hit rolls against sophonts get an automatic negate 12 DM.
  • Similiar to vehicle damage, all ship damage only effects Hull and Structure - when they reach zero the ship spins wildly out of control and then comes to rest from the explosions - at which time all crew and passengers will then escape in suits or life pods.
  • Any radiation damage can be removed by taking a shower.
  • PC can never die - all healing requires only bandages, slings and casts.
  • Highest Strength characteristic PC must have an inordinate fear of starships.
  • Same PC is instantly affected by knock-out injections.
  • Smoking is optional.

Space Captain Smith - the British Space Empire, evil ant-like aliens, friendly(ish) predator-esque aliens, "moral fibre" bonuses accrued through drinking tea, creaky ships, brass, maxim cannon (and plasma guns), dreadnoughts, steam tanks, dragons, android pilots with "interesting" backgrounds, android hitmen, a race of vicious sentient lemmings, hippies, etc., etc.....

What more could you want? :)

Drat - I thought you were referring to another awesome British Sci-Fi show (but the book sounds interesting non-the-less)! :)
