Using older Traveller Material with MongTraveller

I have a HUGE collection of Traveller stuff. Almost all the CT stuff the MegaTraveller stuff, GURPS Traveller and other versions as well. While I know that not all will convert directly what about CT and MT items?

I myself have been collecting since the late 70's and have found all the CT material should be able to used as is, as should the MT material. Keep in mind though that original CT used armor differently. And ship design is a little different as well but all the adventures should be just fine. MT should actually be easier to use, thanks to MongTrav's inclusion of task difficulty mods.

Depends on what you want to convert. Equipment that doesn't have a hard rule attached (like a tool kit or portable sensor, as opposed to weapons and armor) is pretty easy. So are adventures provided you have all the bits that adventure needs in whichever system you play under. Most NPCs from Book 1 and Supplement 4 will be skill light, while the advanced generation set will tend to be a little skill heavy compared to Mongoose Traveller.

True..and there are some skills that require a bit of thought to convert to MGT, like Forgery. Most of the skills in MT though are pretty easy to convert to the MGT standard.

I've found that, given MGT's characteristic bonuses to skills, reducing MT skill levels by one worked out nicely for those characters I've converted.

EDIT: In fact, I just finished generating a couple Darrian characters using CT supplement Alien Module 8: Darrians. I combined use of the skill tables from Book with the Homeworld Skills, Event and Mishaps tables from MongTrav.

Incredibly easy to come up with viable characters. This gives me hope that Mongoose may consider redoing all the CT Aliens supplement series. Now that would be great! Even if it doesn't happen, the ease of combining Core Book aspects with an Alien Module make such modules worth looking into, even if they're available only through eBay or online stores.

I might eventually come around to converting ship stats from CT and TNE to MGT (only the stats themselves, not the graphics/description to avoid infringing on the copyright).
