Aug RuneQuest Empires (GLORANTHA?)

This sounds interesting. Anyone from Mongoose able to give us any clues as to what this is likely to contain?

Also Do we know what format the books are likely to take. I heard rumour that we might start to finally see some books in paperback - will this be all books, or only some? Will some books be available in both hardback and paperback, and if so, will the releases be simultaneous, and finally, will older books be re-released in paperback? (I might be tempted by Pirates if it were not hardback)

RuneQuest: Empires is one of mine. The intention is to produce a generic book that looks in detail at how empires work using the RQ rules, providing information on economics, maintenance, expansion, military administration, and so on. I have a few other ideas that I'm considering but won't elaborate on here in case they don't come to fruition.

I start work on 'Cults of the Young Kingdoms' next week, so not sure it'll hit the April release... :)

"The Elric of Melnibone Companion" is, as well as "Magic of the Young Kingdoms", out now, BUT:
These are the HC versions, the ones to be published now and in march are the softcovers!

Magic of the Young Kingdoms is, so far, the only book where I've worked with Pete and Loz. Everything else with his name is just that.

- Ducks: A Guide to the Durulz (GLORANTHA)
by ??? (THIS i REALLY want to know!)

This would be me. I fought long and hard (not really, just a few e-mails) to get this one. I have always thought that there was not enough background and lovin' for the Durulz, so I'm hoping to give Duck-fans some more of what they got a taste of in the PLayer's Guide.

There are Recipes in the Players Guide?!?! I must have missed them - I'll go back and check.

A whole cookbook dedicated to ducks though, I can't wait! Hopefully this one will be in color.

Will there be some legendary feats (obtained after a long and hard heroquest) enabling ducks to fly?

Absolutely not. The loss of flight is a core facet of the Duck's Myth. But you can believe that they will get some others, however. ;)

Oh Bryan, i hope you know what you have done...

You will have to match with Trolls, Dragonewts, and Elfs... in writing style, gloranthan accuracy, and playability.
AND you will have to make the balancing act to describe the Durulz as gloranthas comic relief, WITHOUT making to much fun of them!

Hard job, i look forward to have this book in my hands... this book will decide if you will get a lot of free beer at the next convention, or if gloranthan fans demand your head on a silver plate. ;-)

Good Luck!

You cant have a full book on duck meals, you have to include a few elfs as Duck always goes better with a side salad.

I would give you some of ours, but troll cusine tends to be a bit basic.

I was always surprised that the troll menu in Troll Pack had some cooked dwarves and elves but never any ducks. Can't they digest the feathers?

They are full of bile and spite and don't really taste very nice at all.

You can live on them but they taste like duck.

Personally I dislike (what I see as) comedy races in FG esp Gully Dwarves, Haflings, Ducks, etc etc

Whlst I suppose they can be used well - I have never found less than irritating and something to kill on sight. :)

I LOVE ducks.
They might be funny for most roleplayers and gloranthans alike, but objectivly they are not, and i treat them like uz, dragonewts, elfs, or any other species.
There is a reason why they are how they are... at least in glorantha... i am not so sure about "generic RQ ducks". ;-)

Cheers

I'm hoping to meet the comedy/usefulness in the book, and I know it is going to be a hard - but REALLY fun - ride. :)

I think Ducks are best represented in the adventure from the Runequest Deluxe book (3rd edition): that is with much courage but without fanatism (they value their lives). In fact they can be as smart and clever as human, but they know they don't have their strength.

This can be a drawback to play for a player but on the other side, they find easy allies within other oppressed non-human community.

Gloranthan ducks KNOW that humans treat them as creatures to make fun of.

In my glorantha that makes a lot of ducks real bitter and hard when dealing with humans.

Ducks are a serious race like elf, dwarf, troll etc.

They only get funny when interacting with humans and THEY make fun of them.

An even then: in most cases these "funny creatures" are tougher than the ordinary gloranthan human would think.

Have you ever fought undead in the Upland Marsh?
Its much easier if you have a Humakti duck by your side!
Humakti ducks are not so rare.

Make fun out of a duck, and don´t be surprised if you find a crossbow bolt in your stomach a few seconds later.
A lot of ducks are pirates, rogues or the like.
