Undeveloped Areas of Glorantha?

Narl

Mongoose
I'm now considering setting my campaign in Glorantha, which was not in my plans originally.

I'm looking for a region of Glorantha that may be undeveloped in published supplements (with no likely plans to develop the area either). Is there such a place? Ideally, a temperate or sub-arctic climate for it to work with some of the existing campaign plans I had.

A side question -- are typical weapons and armor in Glorantha presumed to be bronze as in RQ 2nd edition?

Thanks!

Bear in mind that in Glorantha it's not "bronze", but a metal that has similar properties, such as ease of casting, working and ductile qualities. I'm not even sure it is bronze-coloured (one can chemically treat and patinate bronze any colour under the rainbow in any case).

I seem to remember it's called "Hu-metal" (might be wrong), but it is important to always remember it is NOT actually bronze.

The intention is to develop Glorantha as much as possible in supplements, so its impossible to say for certain that region X will not be developed.

There are plenty of areas that haven't been developed yet: Pamaltela, Kralorela, Hendrikiland, Votankiland and many others; but in time these will be fleshed out.

But you shouldn't let any of this stop you from choosing an area and developing it for yourself. This is YOUR Glorantha and a really good way to get into the world is choose a small area and work with it closely. Much depends on what background your characters are from too; are the God Learners, EWF or traditionalists? What are the aims of your campaign? There are loads of areas where you can fit all three into the mix without having to rely on published works.

Sorry I can't be more specific than this, but the best advice is to choose an area that fits your characters and themes and put your own development into it. Don't feel constrained by what's published or what will be published. Your Glorantha will vary!

Chaosium used to refer to "blank lands" which were areas of Glorantha that would "never" be explored in their published material. I'm sure there is a list somewhere. This doesn't mean that they won't get the Mongoose treatment at some stage though, I guess.

However, as Loz says above, just because a region been covered by published material, doesn't mean to say that your version is incorrect. My version of Glorantha [and for that matter, the Young Kingdoms, The Empire, Mega City One, Feudal Japan, The Third Imperium and The World Of Darkness] has been tampered with to my own exacting specifications...

GiantLand in the Rockwoods is a good bet for never being described. It's possibly subarctic in places (Inora's Glacier sits there) and sits among the highest mountains where nobody goes. The perfect place for a hidden clan.

Hu-Metal aside, yes. Having said that, the metal has never really affected any of my campaigns. Normal metal is the default and magical weapons can be made from special metals with special properties. Whether it's bronze, hu-metal or whatever doesn't really matter.

Personally, I'd go for the Kingdom of Ignorance, which I think has excellent RPG potential in almost all Glorantha time periods.

I also like some of the possible themes in the Maslo peninsula. I picked an area that I thought would never be developed once to run a campaign - this was before Mongoose 2nd Age. I chose the founding of Pavis. Doh!

Some areas of Ralios are underdeveloped. And at least if you centre your campaign there, you will be able to use a lot of information from the neighbouring areas.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful advice. I have a lot to consider. Can't wait to play RQ again after about a 20 year absence!
