Troligan?

I'm working on my Minbari models. Has anyone actually managed to get the Troligan's bits on? I'm not sure it's worth the trouble to put them on - I figure they'll be broken off first game if not in transit. Any advice?

How does it play anyway?

I drilled out the points on the model into which they're supposed to mount, then stuffed them in with some greenstuff and a drop of superglue.

It had its uses pre-SFoS, and was good at them. I haven't used one since SFoS came out, as there are much better and more useful ships available at its Priority Level. Its really just an ugly ornament at the moment.

I haven't bothered building mine, troligans are a pile of poo.

What shall we do to fix it? I want to use it and I'm not above house rules.
Use it as a stand-in model for a Veshatan? They are fairly similar (both flat ships) and the stats are nearly the same, except the Veshatan is about 2x as good.

*shrugs* Make it hull 6 again, then it fits somewhat a similar slot that the nesathan does, as the 'bruiser' of the minbari ships.

I thought it was hull 6....(looks at SFoS)...right then. If the armored Troligan is hull 5, does that mean non-amored Troligans are hull 4?!? Ick. Hull 6 would get my vote. If the idea is something slow that can take a beating, that should do the trick.

Giving it twin-linked on the fusion cannon does the trick nicely (and follows the look and feel of most of the Minbari gun mounts having twin weapons).

According to the original fluff the Troligan was a ship-disruption fleet. It was deliberately set up to take a beating, but be under-armed. It would float into the middle of an enemy fleet to force them to scatter, or otherwise disrupt fleet movements. In such a role, I'm not sure it needs twin-linking, but hull six would make it perfectly fit that role.

It can take a lot of damage, judging from the stats (never played one yet). But yes, I can see it needs something. I'd never choose it over a Tinashi. Hull 6 would be my choice.

Well, rather than start a new thread, this one seems quite usable...

How to fix the Troligan? First let's consider what's wrong (and anything that's right with it) and perhaps this will show the way.

First, compare it to the other Minbari battle choices - only the Morshin beats it in terms of craft. With a solitary flyer flight, the Troligan trumps the Veshatan and the Tinashi.
The Tinashi is weaker by around 20 points on hull and crew, wheras the Veshatan has slightly more hull but slightly less crew.
Speed-wise the Veshatan and Tinashi are way ahead, and the Tinashi has 2 turns.
AD-wise, the Tinashi is probably best all-round. With 4 beam and 8/6/6/6 minibeam. The Troligan rolls in an all-round second with 2 beam and 8/6/6/6. The Veshetan trumps it on beam but sacrifices the secondary guns.

All are hull 5, all are stealth 4. So, what role does the Troligan currently fill? No tougher than either ship, but can soak up more damage than a Tinashi at the cost of speed and beam shots.

Bumping it up to hull 6 would definately separate it from the others (the all round warship Tinashi and the fast gunship Veshatan). The weapons loadout is pretty good as is - its fragility is what makes it redundant.
Bumping it up to 2/45 would also make it a real close in powerhouse with that low speed making for a good turning circle.

No argument here. Your point on the Sag being fixed is good. We should pressure Mongoose to fix the lame ships, not just the maxed ones. I'd play it by house rules, but that only goes so far. It needs to be official.

Troligan, as is with hull 6 is the easiest way to make is usable. Another turn or a flight would also be good, but I just want a playable ship, not another broken one. The hull I know it needs, the others might tip the scales.
