[Traveller: Third Imperium] Thoughts and some complains

I hate to make my first post filled with criticism, but I have some thoughts, questions and things I want to say, and if I rub people the wrong way, I am sorry.

1)
When you look in the main book (at quite a lot of places) there are strange writings that i dont understand. At page 37 (just to mention one of them) in the chapter about Anagathics, you write:

Secondly, the drugs cost 1d6 2500 credits for each term that the character uses the drugs.

Is this a typo, or have you forgotten the multiplication sign (in all instances all over the book)? In my eyes that looks pretty cheap.

2)
It is really sad you make the spacecraft deckplans so small, it is hard for a group to use the two traders on page 117 as well as the yacht on page 124. Not to mention the Merc Cruiser on page 128. I know that you are short on space (no pun intended) but it is hard to use those ships as gaming aids.

3)
Will you ever produce a Fifth Frontier War supplement, or will teh game be stagnant in 1105. In my eyes the living universe of traveller was what drew me to the game when GDW published it. I know that many people do not want a new rebellion, but the Fifth Frontier War is hinted at in your books.

4)
The deckplan of the Pinnace on page 134 shows that there are passenger seats, but i dont find anything of the like in the starship construction chapter. Also on page 132-133 the various smallcrafts tells that they are made for carrying passengers, but their deckplans do not show this.

5)
Where can i fid data for the Liner (depicted on 112). What supplement ?

6)
Does Secrets of the Ancients miss a few chapters, on the downloadable version there are more text than in my hardcopy?

7)
Despite my many complains, i am grateful that you have given Traveller a rebirth and I love, adore your company for that.

8)
I love the first chapters of Spinward Marches module about the Imperium. Have you thought of making a Atlas/players Handbook for the Imperium and/or a GM's book about it?

9)
PLease write more books like the Spinward marches, it was so wonderful and I love it and use and read it over and over! I love it!

Hi there,

Not to worry, we value all criticism, good and bad - many thanks for posting!

1. This was a printing error (caused by a fonts issue) that affected some printings of the core rulebook. The current book does not have these faults.

2. Deck plans are something we are looking very hard into at the moment. hose you cite are still usable, but I accept your point - they were reduced because, being traders, they had a lot of empty space. You will find most other Traveller books dedicate an entire page or more to each ship's deck plans.

3. The short answer is yes, there will be a FFW supplement. However, we want to do it right and so it will be out when it is ready :)

4. Passenger seating is an assumption on small craft - we are not going to make you pay for every seat and it is folded into the cost of the craft. The other craft are typically cargo carriers but many, many different configurations are possible. You are free to simply fill such areas with passenger seating, according to the needs of the ship.

5. Ah, the old Subsidised Liner - we have yet to do this ship, though there are large liners in both Merchants & Cruisers and Merchant Prince.

6. Unfortunately, yes - the missing pages can be downloaded from here;

7. You are welcome!

8. We have - might be something for next year!

9. We already have a range of sectors available (such as Reft, Deneb and Solomani Rim). Also check out the Alien Modules which usually have a complete sector included (my favourite being Trojan Reach in Aslan!).

Hope all that helps!

Thank you for the quick reply, and again I am sorry for sounding overly grumpy.

I know that you have many things on your plate, but aside for a Players/GMs guide to the Third Imperium and a FFW book, there is one thing that I would love to see. That is a Sectorbook about the Core Sector, all sectors you have mentioned are more or less at the various borders of the great Imperium. It would be a wonderful contrast to have a book about the center of it all. For the more high political campaings with various nobles owning one or more worlds trying to outdo eachother in order to climb the social ladder towards the iridium throne.

I liked the Zhodani and the Darriann Sourcebooks, they were well written and very exciting to read. And I have just ordered Trojan Reach and Reft sectors (Aslan + map pack) so that I get the entire Domain of Deneb.

There are acceleration couches and cabin space for passengers, those are covered in Book 2: High Guard, along with small craft construction.

A Core Sector book is certainly on the cards!
There is http://travellermap.com it has some basic info on that sector
The capitol has these stats: A586A98-F, a population of 60 billion people, not quite Corusant or Trantor, it is not a City Planet in other words, that would require a much larger population. It orbits a G2 V star, it says it is the homeworld of the Syleans, whatever they are. Wikipedia entry here: http://wiki.travellerrpg.com/Syleans, they are a minor human race it says, given that they come from a size 5 world, just a little bigger than Mars, they might have trouble on a planet like Earth.

The Syleans are given a full write up in the GURPS: Humaniti book and Sylea aka Capital was written up in The Travellers' Digest Issue 9 if you can find it.
You think their might be a Psion Academy on Capitol?
Probably not. Had a look at digest 9, the info there is mostly to do with the Imperial Palace and relatively little to do with the rest of the planet, some interesting info though: didn't know about the Aslan Guard regiment before. Given the prejudice against Psionics throughout the Empire, they might make use of them, but there wouldn't be an Academy on the planet. Not openly, at least. Imperial Intelligence likely has it's own version of a Psionic Institute or Academy on a world somewhere near to Capital, but as a covert operation (plausible deniability).

I'm willing to bet Capitol does not look like this:
Coruscant-AoTCW.jpg

This is of course the image of the Star Wars capitol Coruscant. We don't have a picture of Capital, but let at this point do a comparison between these two planets. What are the differences and similarities between these two planets. For one thing Coruscant has 1 trillion permanent residents, its population code would be then C, so Capital has one hundreth the population of Coruscant, well to be fair the Third Imperium is not a Galactic Empire either, it has 11,000 worlds.

Coruscant may have 1 Trillion residents, Capital has 56.8 Billion. I do not believe that is 1/100th of Coruscant's population, in fact I believe it might be more than 1/20th of it's population.

I was looking at the population exponent, not the multiplier.

I know, that was why I was not necessarily correcting your post per se. Just adding a little detail.
