Traveller Open Day at Mongoose HQ, Swindon

Thanks to all who were responsible for putting on the day. I had a great time. Special thanks to Richard for GMing "Masks"(really looking forward to that being published) and to Andy for GMing Seek and Destroy. They were both excellent as where my fellow players. Next time I promise not to be married or in any form of relationship with Kat (no offence Kat, but twice in one day is enough for a lifetime! )

Now if I can only work out who the hiver was. Should have put a mop and bucket in the middle of the room to see who'd eye it up lovingly!

Luckly I got out with only spending one pound (on some very nice BITS dice, highly recommended).

Thanks again. Looking forward to the next day. :D

EDIT: PS, the Traveller screen looks really nice. Very sturdy, but I didn't have a chance to proof-read it

Many thanks to all at Mongoose for putting on such a fantastic event . My first visit to the hallowed halls and I'm sure it won't be the last. I played two great scenarios, Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog respectively so many thanks to Nick and Richard for being so entertaining. Roll on the next open day. So when is it Matt and whats the theme? :D

Indeed sorry for my quickish replies but I was getting aquainted with my daughter again. Many thanks to all at Mongoose who made this such a fun day and especially to the GM's of both JD and SD sessions I played ... Chirp :)

ell I made it along and a good time was had by all. Mongoose Publishing's offices are fairly large but non-descript above a furniture store but space enough for 4-8 games (as quite a few terrain board tables and 40K buildings atest to). Mongoose Matt was there to greet us and Nick was running the stall.

The games seemed to be mostly run by BITS referees with their enormous back-catalogue of Traveller goodness. Games were a little short at about 3 hours each. I got to play in Robins Noble Blood, in which we were Imperial infilatrators pretending to be mercenaries so we could covertly search the rebel highlands of a despotic Ardeni Federation world which was fun in a kind of 'fight the Viet Cong' way. We mostly survived, though one of the Bournemouth crowd (Rob) was effectively bad-'Touched by the Vorlons' and disappeared as a ball of light in the aftermath. Apparently thats not unusual for him.

Then I played in Peter (?) Lilleys Silver Eagle, in which we were Spec Ops forces going into an incredibly detailed star liner. It was rewarding to play a Sam Fisher/Liquid Snake type of game in which attention to the detail of the maps and handouts really did reward you in play as we knew about service elevators, camera angles and the like. Pity we wound up shooting our way through the ship, but we were mostly successful!

At the Mongoose store, I made out like a bandito with their Paranoia Clearence, and also picked up all the new Earthdawn books.

Numbers were possibly a little low, there were enough GM's for 5-6 games in each slot, but I think only 4 and 3 ran in each instead. Still, with free entry, some great games by experienced Traveller GM's and a sneak peak at some of Mongooses' upcoming adventures and books, I'd certainly recommend it for those interested in the game. Plus mention of Living Traveller to look forward to at Conception!

My thanks to Mongoose, for an excellent gaming day!

Sorry I couldn't stay for the PM slot guys - I still feel unwell

It was great to meet some faces and put them to names/aliases and handles.

For those of you who played Strontium Dog thanks to Tentacles Tim, Chirps (who I will now have nightmares about after those sound effects), Digby Jones III, Cat Stevens, Stone Face Stevens and Chins McGowan.

If you have any thoughts on the system / game structure please PM me as I will be putting together a short report for Mongoose on how it went.

Hi Folks,

Glad you enjoyed the games; we always find them rewarding to run because of that. I enjoyed playing Masks, especially at the start when I cunningly avoided playing someone's wife by getting Kat to join and volunteering her the first character I'd picked up. :-)

Thanks also to Mongoose for inviting us BITS guys along to run stuff.

Andy (Lilly) - one of the BITS guys...

Sorry to hear you were unwell. I hope you got over it. Of course it could have been simply a reaction to being in Swindon, but since you come from Milton Keenes, I'd assume you're immune to such things. 8) I can't say I noticed a white T-shirt wearing janitor anywhere there. Maybe at the next meeting (hint, Mongoose, hint!)

Thanks Andy. I prefered being married to Kat than to you. Thanks also for running Seek and Destroy. The one-liner description didn't look too inspiring to me but the game turned out to be great. I also thought we did fairly well. By my estimate we managed a 75% success rate.

So... you needed a bucket, but not a mop? ;)

(I kid, I kid!)
