It's a Simpsons reference. Grampa is sitting at the table bemoaning how nobody listens to the old, Lisa is similarly lamenting how nobody listens to the young, and then Homer walks in saying "I'm a male aged 18-42, everybody listens to me!", reaches into the cupboard for a tin that says NUTS AND GUM: TOGETHER AT LAST!, and walks off easting nuts and gum.

And yeah, from a realistic point of view, power loader or not much bigger suits are far more realistic as mecha - take a look at Heavy Gear or Armoured Trooper VOTOMS - the anime that "heavily influenced" it for similar mecha. Also they can be seen as a logical progression from Battle Dress towards heavier combat units that have applications where tanks aren't practical.

Bah, beat me to it. But I have to add Jovian Chronicles to the Mix of Heavy Gear and Armored Trooper Votomos as well.

All are great examples of "expansion" from Battle Dress to Mecha.

LOL. Well not quite. Certainly borrows heavily from the original Gundam Background, but if you look at the reasoning and the tech itself, ie: "Why have big robots in space?" It makes for a natural progression, from Powered Armor like Battle Dress, to the "Gears", to Bigger mecha.....

So I wouldn't say IS (I've got Mekton Zeta for "IS" heh), but you are certainly correct at pointing at it and using that as an example.

Fun game though unfortunately requires to much brain power to be engaged for a lot of people. 3d environment, inertia, vectors and reaction mass calculations wear on some folk......

I was being slightly facetios for the sake of humour, but the look of the JC universe always interested me. But nowhere over here has ever stocked it. I may have to take a look online for some books, and check it out.

Just a thought. Mechs in Traveller shouldn't be - IMNHO - larger than Protomechs (preferably) or Light Mechs from Battletech. More because Grav vehicles would come in and be less expensive little while after Mechs are introduced.

Well, after sifting through this thread, I know that I had written in mech-like suits into Power Armour...but it seems that the book is getting a once over by another author, too. So, I have no idea what the final verdict will be.

I hope you guys still get everything you want out of it, however.

Remember that "suit-mecha" can't run faster than about 15-20 mph as the internal "wet-ware"'s joints would give out quite quickly (and painfully).
