FreeTrav
Cosmic Mongoose
(Note to board mods: This might be good to sticky.)
Freelance Traveller is the de facto owner/sponsor of two IRC channels, one on the Undernet IRC network (#traveller), and one on the Otherworlders (formerly Psionics) network (#lonestar). Both channels are "bridged" so that if you are in one of them, you'll (usually) be able to see what's going on in the other, and participate in conversations across both.
Right now, both channels are pretty quiet, but you can change that by coming in and starting conversations. Use any IRC client to connect to irc.undernet.org for #traveller, or irc.otherworlders.org for #lonestar. Both networks have browser-based clients available, but any IRC client will work.
While Traveller-related chat - for any version or setting - is specifically encouraged, there's no real moderation other than for "don't be a jerk"; any topic is fair game. Occasionally, a "Topical Talk" will be scheduled; those will be on a specific topic and may be moderated - see the announcement of a particular talk for details on how it's conducted.
