Based on the track record of the other Traveller rule sets and a few other games with more than one version after the major updates they rarely get cleaned up. One of the reasons I've looked at MgT again is that my questions and suggested errata fixes went nowhere.
A lot of things people have requested over the years have gone into the new High Guard. But still tried to keep things close to the earlier version.
I am glad that the goal is to try ensuring that the earlier and new versions are close not to invalid the original designs.
My worry is that there will be, in spite of the attempts to keep them close, original designs that can not be built in the new system like the CT 100-dton Express Boat or CT 1,000-dton Express Boat Tender.
I discovered that the CT 100-dton Express Boat found in CT Supplements 7 and 9 could not be built using CT Book 2 1977/1981 or the CT Book 5 1980 rules. According to the data in the Supplements the Express Boat does not have a power plant or maneuver both CT Book 5 1980 and CT Book 2 197/1981 require a power plant which has to at least be the same rating as the Express Boat's Jump Drive. CT Supplement 9 lists the J4 Express Boat's TL as 10, unfortunately according to CT Book 5 1981 the drive is available at TL 13. CT Book 2 1977/1981 the on TL is part of the Computer Table and CT Book 3 1977/1981 Technologic Levels shows that Jump Drives A-D are available at TL 9. Looking at CT Book 2 1977/1981 Drive Potential Table a 100 ton hull using a jump drive rating of B can go four parsecs.
CT Book 2 1977 design rules the power plant provides the ship's internal power and powers the maneuver drive. The power plant has to be at least the same rating as the maneuver drive. The Express Boat designer interpreted that power plants could be omitted when there is no maneuver drive. My interpretation is that every hull requires a power plant. A starship requires both a power plant and jump drive, but does not need a maneuver drive. Non-starships require both a power plant and maneuver drive. Using my interpretation the Express Boat looses a stateroom and cargo capacity and is, in my opinion, a valid design.
Of course the Express Boat Tender has the issues of not being able to replicate the two mobile turrets and pop-up turret.
Now I will apologized for straying off-topic which concerned self-sealing hulls. To recap self-sealing hulls are added one time and never wear out.
Tank-you again for the help ANdrewW.
