As mentioned I plan to pop in here from time to time to update ya'll when new stuff happens RE: http://www.Traveller-AR.com (the upcoming iPhone + iPad Traveller MMORPG).

Here's the latest:
1. Check out new details about Combat, the game's AI, and Playable Classes in the weekly developer blog: http://www.traveller-ar.com/category/developer-blog/
2. There is a new Sweepstakes to name an "in-Game" missile (and get a free limited edition T-Shirt): http://apps.facebook.com/rewardshare/reshare/3955/
3. Our Beta is still accepting early sign-ups, but is filling up so sign up soon: http://www.traveller-ar.com/signup-for-beta/

As always, any questions/issues/ideas, I welcome them, and am happy to discuss here!

NAME THIS MISSILE: http://apps.facebook.com/rewardshare/reshare/3955/

An android port is quite likely, it's more a question of "when"...

We are working hard on the iPhone/iPad version now, but after it is released, android is definitely on the plate.

About the missile, can I know more about it?
Is it fast? is it slow?
Does it have a special attack method, like a bomb pumped laser, multiple warheads, is it nuclear?
Is it the standard 12 to a dimension ton missile, or is it bigger than normal?

Definitely interested in an Android port, unless its sufficienty simple enough to work on my Touch. A friend of mine has an iPhone and iPad, and I've been trying to find a gateway into getting into Pen and Paper games.

Okay, i got confirmation from our president that the missile will be:

"a tactical field space based nuke; nominal 50KT yield, single warhead, standard size and speed."

Winner gets to name this class of missile.

Also, FYI: Our president (Tony Howlett) is headed to speak at the Augmented Reality Event... and is making some special announcements there... as soon as they are public, I'll mention it here.

HINT: It has to do with Augmented Reality & The Traveller-AR iPhone game!

a 50kt nuke wouldn't fit into a standard missile. Closest would be ~50-60T.

Gotcha,

I'm checking on this with our team of experts! (Marc Miller & team).

I'm no expert, but I am to understand it takes only 2.5lbs of plutonium to create a 50kt Yield.. that said, I'm going to ask the Traveller Experts to be sure.

Will post back here once I get an answer.

check Wikipedia on the following warheads... especially the sizes and yields

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W91
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W89
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W80_%28nuclear_warhead%29
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W55

undoubtedly, there are/were others and not just from the US, so a 50kt warhead in a Traveller missile shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Yes, the standard trav missile including its range leaves a FAR smaller volume for the warhead than the warheads you cited.

gee...how small are 'standard' Trav missiles??
they can all be so tiny?

I guess that I've always pictured them as being like harpoons.
don't tell me that they're the size of sidewinders!

I mean, surely, they've managed to make the package a l'il bit smaller in the intervening 7-8 tech levels haven't they?

unless I did simple math wrong, those old tech-7 examples are only about .6-.9 m^3

~15 to a Dton. they are TL 7 in MGT so reaction drives with a lot of fuel needed. Physics wise there is a lower size limit. So, the MGT TL 7 missiles are not going to have warheads of those yields.

Except we've already discussed how TL7 reaction drives cannot possibly produce the necessary thrust. So, the rules as written must be reinterpreted. That said, I'm not going to worry overly much about whether a nuke can be fit into a Traveller ship missile. It frankly is one of those niggling details that we're better off not caring about.

If those niggling details are "your thing," then why oh why are you playing a game as demonstrably flawed (often by those same nigglers) as Traveller??

Then you have to fit a PP & Grav-M drive + fuel. Slice anyway you want. You can't fit that size warhead into one. It was already determined in those discussions that it was a very small 50-100t yield weapon.

I did make a mistake with simple math
a w80 warhead takes up ~.06m^3 and masses only 130kg.
And the 'standard' Traveller missile is about the size of a Tomahawk.
So what's the problem?

I hope no one expects a tech-7 missile to have similar performance to more advanced missiles. It will will certainly have more than enough performance to fight in tech-7 space battles. Besides, except for 'FF&S1', since when did Traveller worry about reaction mass ( or mass at all, when talking about spaceships and acceleration )?

but then again, sci-fi physics != real-life physics, eh?

I don't understand why this game uses Augmented Reality, it makes no sense in this context whatsoever. It's as if they had a brainstorming session and someone wrote 'AR!!!!1!!one!!11!" on the board so now it has it.
