Ugh. In-app purchases. Not a fan. I know it's "the thing to do" and how really crappy games like Smurf's Village manage to make so much money, but this is really going to kill this game for me. UNLESS the game can be played and enjoyed for the $5 we will initially pay for it, I'm probably going to pass on it. Something about the "in app purchase" model just rubs me the wrong way. It's deceptively easy to spend too much money on that stuff and honestly, the idea of getting better in a game by spending real world money is just anathema to my old school hard core gamer ways.

heh :)

Does it make me an OLDER school hard core gamer when I can recall that was how it used to be, plugging rolls of quarters into the games at the arcade to get better and finally register my initials for the honour of the display of the high score  When I think of how much time and allowance money I must have wasted there

Anyway, I'm safe from this particular instance, unless someone gifts me an i-device since I can't see buying one, nor any of the knockoffs if it ever trickles down to them. Not that I don't wish all the success on the venture, it's just not my cup of tea.

I didn't see that link the 1st time around.

Yeah, pass on that. Wrong model for the wrong demographic.

RE: in-app purchases...

they are completely optional, and don't really enhance your ability to progress in the game at all.... it's not like that.

It's more for "expansion content" like new playable classes and such.

the base game for $4.99 has all the features enabled and is fully playable... as long as you are smart (and don't wander into deep space and get your ship blown up), you won't even need the ship insurance.

Even if you die and lose your ship, you get a free starter ship if you die.

Hope this helps,
Harlan
