Transferring Occupations Chthonian Stars

Ok...I am building my first character and I have him in the Navy in a line slot and then transferring to become a Warden.

I paid the points to commission him and promote him on the Navy side but now with the transfer what rank would he be? The ranks are mixed for agent, so you have only one rank "tree" to look at.

Any help is appreciated...

For regular Traveller I would imagine this would be like just transferring over to Agent from Navy, how would the commissioning work? I think I know the answer here and I might just have to house rule and come up with enlisted and officer ranks for the more military branches.

You have a couple of options as I see it:

1. Whatever rank level he had in the Navy, he gets in the Wardens. So if he was a Rank 2 Officer then he is a Rank 2 Warden.

2. He looses all rank when he transfers to another career and starts over as a Rank 0 Warden.

3. Something in between. Depending on how close you feel the two careers are, he might be allowed to keep 1 or 2 levels of rank during the transfer. After all being an Officer in the military is usually worth something in a later job. So, start him out at a couple of ranks below where he was in the Navy (but at least Rank 1).

Personally, I tend to use 1 or 3 depending on how close the careers are to each other (Navy to Merchant, Army to Mercenary etc). Rarely will someone with experience in another field come in as an entry level position; especially if they are an officer in the military.
