Tracking Updates

Hi,

This idea may mean more work for the development staff but I'd like to see:-
1) Version information put into the play test files so you can tell if a PDF is the latest version.
2) A thread in a forum somewhere listing the current play test files and their latest version information.

I'm usually quite good with keeping track of files but these suggestions may make life easier

Interesting, in my account all the files for the Beta are listed as a single product and thus the individual files are not dated or flagged as updated by the system. Rather, if even one file is, the whole thing flags as updated. On top of that, Mongoose has not always added version or date info to the file name. To be fair though, I have been able to figure it out, mostly. :mrgreen:

I noticed that the newest version of this beta test rulebook labeled "Core_Rulebook_October_Revision.pdf" is missing Aiming rules on page 72. Whereas the previous beta version labelled "NEWTRAV_UPDATE_27OCT.pdf" had the correct information....but no longer available for download.

I wish that Mongoose would help us maintain updated pdfs with a beta version number in the credits/contents page (to be removed in final production version)

I have nothing against Mongoose or Traveller RPG...I am liking what I see.
I am asking for some quality control to minimize confusion.

Good point,

I don't know how things are organized in the different teams there, but from experience (software development) I can tell the revisions can cause confusion, loss of quality and wasted effort.

Add some sort of version control tools. It takes some time to learn the tools, but trust me - it repays in folds.

That reminds me. I really need to get round to learning to use git https://git-scm.com/.

I wasn't very fair in my assessment. It is possible that they use a relatively good system for version control (even Word can do the trick with track changes and compare if you first create procedures), but the error was in the publishing as those software are not usually equipped with elaborate tracking systems.

Anyway, this is more of an armchair thinking that anything else
