Tourney in Aldershot

TGT

Banded Mongoose
Chaps, is there any interest left in playing in a B5 ACTA Tourney? It'll be in the second half of November probably the 28th or 29th at the old games store in aldershot, please let me know. I'd have to double check with the new management about room hire and cost, but before I do that I need at least 10 names who can commit to that weekend.

Paul (AKA Clanger) is having computer issues at the moment, but he has confirmed his desire to attend also. That's 4 from "Greg's Crew" and we still have to hear from Ben (Diesel)... 8)
What's Jim up to?

Hi Chaps
Games store is ok with Sunday the 29th November
entry is £2
AND
Starting from 12:00 as the shop opens from 12:00 til 11pm.
This gives us a chance to play larger level point games than I thought possible. I'm open to suggestions but what about 5pt Raid, 5pt Battle and 5pt War?
I'll also need to have suggestions from folks about what is now "cheese" (i.e Gaim, Hunting packs anything else?)
I need to check on availability of boards and terrain but if people can bring terrain and 6ft by 4ft black cloths we should be ok.
Watch this space for any changes!

Sounds good :)

re timing - we will need to get back home as well so may not be able to stay till 11pm - but need to talk to the "crew" about this.

big games are good!

re adjustments to the game: things to consider (IMO)

Use P+P ship adjustments (Demos, Stalker etc)
Beam system (I prefer Burgers for speed, but many go for Triggy's for feel)
don't allow Hunting Packs
Gaim are fine now (just a pain to fight sometimes)
I am still not convinced the White Star adjustment was needed (well not against Centauri/Minbari anyway) ............but thats a debate!!

Sounds good to me! Like the idea of getting some big ships on the board.

With regards to rules, I would suggest the following:

1. Use the P&P rule set, including Hunting packs; they are there to be played and there are tactics to defeat them.

2. Beam - Lets stick to the ACTA rules, not everyone knows Burgers or Triggy's rules, I certainly don't play them - And if there is a problem who do we turn to to make the decision (Yes I know Burger will be there); at least we can fall back on the rules and everyone has a level playing field.

3. No problem with Gaim.

Finally, I have a black cloth which I will bring with me and can you give us an idea of when it will finish, some of us have distance to travel on a Sunday evening.

Well if we say a kick off at 12:30 that gives me time to have folks set up tables etc
12:00 meet, greet and donkey work
12:30- 14:30 5pt RAID (2hrs)
14:30-17:00 5pt BATTLE (2hrs 30)
17:00- 19:30 5pt WAR (2hrs 30)
these can shift to suit but if we look at a 20:00 finish max

What about 10 ship limit for each game?

I'll take a concensus for rules/ships to inc/excl closer to the time but if you don't suggest any then don't feel let down on the day.

thanks for the interest and KennyBoy invite triggy down will you?

Sounds good, except need some breaks for food and rests. ;)

I think using P&P rules, pretty much nothing is broken now except hunting packs which Matt has declared removed from P&P. I prefer Triggy's beam system, it's just the most fair especially for a tournament, and doesn't ruin games.

Triggy's Beam system works for me.

Agree with the big limit on ships. Also what about the Drakh with Huge Hangars who would they be effected by the ship limit?

Also have a minimum level of ships in the big games as well

I'm not sure if i've ever heard of a minimum number of ships required for a game. Any other thoughts on that folks? At first glance I'd say no need.

I know the Walsall folks let you inc one ship with huge hangers, so maybe ten ships and the ships carried inside don't count towards the ten, again thoughts on that.

ok if Hunting pack is removed from P&P we'll not incl it

I tend to use a Beam rule of
1-2 miss
3-4 one hit
5-6 on hit and roll again

is that Burgers or Triggys rule?

Burger do you want to tie this all up in a nice tourney pdf once i've got all the bits together? The Dilgar war one looked really nice but I'm not too fussed.

I will try to get Jim and Adam involved and also Mark who I now play once in a while, so hoping 4-5 players from SR.
I'll also email the chap in Yeovil.
cheers

One question though guys:

Is 5 point war not pushing it a tad for a short tourney game (also a tad limiting on some folks who play fleets like Drazi etc and dont happen to have lots of the bigger Drazi ships etc)

Only other thing Id say is I agree with Digger about the beam rules, yes the custom ones ARE proably better but too much houserulage leads to confusion (so if these are going to be used please can we have a nice clear statement of what the exact rules are going to be a bit ahead of time so I and others can scheme fleets properly :P)

EDIT: One more question actually: I assume at this point noone would have any issues with folks using third party miniatures like the Nike cruiser and the Adira thingy (whos name I forget) as long as one were not to 'take the piss' and turn up with something like a BFG Imperial fleet and claim theyre standing in for Omega Destroyers or some such? :P
