Tournament fleet composition, unsure...

Depends if you think you'll need all of the Marauders. I like option 2 but it is a touch light on scouts - you might need a 2nd (I'm agreeing with Starbreakers middle ground option from an earlier post!).

Why no Galliots, LBH? I always thought the Darius was an excellent ship. Same broadside as the frigate, extra damage and troops; just dropped the missiles for 20 extra points?

I've just not mentally adapted to boarding yet, hence no Galliots, not in such a small game anyway.

I'd rather take a Frigate and upgrade the troops to compensate in case of boarding.

Can you choose your fleet after you find out what house you're playing? Just thinking that the heavier ships would be better against Al Malik and Decados. Cruiser, Destroyer, Frigate, Scout could be an option - but not too good if Hazat can close the range to you.

Sorry - wrong way of putting that, I should've been clearer. Once you put your fleet choices in at the start of the tourney, when do you choose which of those fleets to use in a game? Do you have to specify a 1st game fleet, 2nd and so on, or can you choose the fleet after you find out which house you are to play?

Game 1: Decados - 7 Mantis, 10 Marauders
Game 2: Decados - 7 Mantis, 10 Marauders
Game 3: Decados - 7 Mantis, 10 Marauders
Game 4: Decados - 7 Mantis, 10 Marauders

;)

Thats tricky - very, very tricky. My advice, then, would be to not take the Vlad, unless you can put shedloads of Marauders on it - it would be too much of a gamebreaker if your opponent successfully boarded it. When you think about the ships you want to take, also consider how you would beat them if your opponent took them away from you, lol.

Of course, there is a counter-argument, that you could use the Vlad as bait, to lure him onto your guns/within boarding range - but that is a much more risky proposition entirely.

Well I'm just thinking of using the tourney as a "suck it and see" test ground, find out what works and what doesn't.

I know taking a Vlad is a risk, but then it could be awesome, and it does have some shiny weaponry with good range.

taking a vlad here is like taking a battle level ship in a 4pt raid game as thats its equivalent level. cruisers are about raid level ships and as 4 of them is 720pts its close enough.

Cruisers are 400 points, you're getting confused with 180 point destroyers somewhere :)

Katadder may have mistaken the points slightly, but he does have a valid point about a cruiser - it is a definate escalation and would need a certain level of escorting protection. However, seeing as some of the cruisers have been on sale at Mongoose for a little while now, others may be thinking along the same lines as well. Could be a bit interesting, lol.

meant destroyers, the cruiser is a battle level equivalent whilst destroyers are raid equivalent. around 1000pts would be our old standard 5pt raid
