Hi,
just wondering what you chaps thought of the skirmish level third Age EA ships. Our group tend to only play raid level games so these smaller ships come into play a lot. I have an oracle and 2 olympus (stillto use them) so I was wanting to add another one to make it up to a raid point.

So how useful is the Hyperion assault varient ovr the Artimis?

Would I benefit more from having a secound scout?

The artemis is IMO the best skirmish level youve got, so go with those if you can

good anti-fighter
reasonable survivability
exelent all round weapons

The new Artemis is very good, AF, Hull 5, and very hard hitting weapons in all arcs. Againts other skirmish level stuff its a beast. The Olympus is practically the same as in 1e, new beam mechanic means its not nearly as vunerable as before. the Oracle got a stealth boost, otherwise the same. The assult hyperion comes in a distant last, it lacks the Oly and Artys guns, but it is more durable than either of the previous.

A solid mix of Artemis and Olympus with an Oracle or 2 is a fairly respectable Skirmish level.

One note, SERIOUSLY consider taking an Avenger now thats its dropped to Raid PL. Has Carrier 4 and can have all its fighters on the board by turn 2, plus its has a respectable array of weapons now to boot

The Assault Hyperion isn't actually as bad a choice as you'd think, particularly if you only take one or two to back your fleet up. Your opponent often doesn't target them as they are so tough for a Skirmish PL ship and they are beasts at boarding actions so force your opponents into different tactics around your fleet or suffer the loss of a ship for double VPs.

the thing that used to make the olympus useful was the high damage of 28, although yes it had hull 4. now its hull 5 and damage 18 so i dont think as good a buy as the artemis.
